Hero Dog

This left me amazed . . . then heartbroken.

That's great...

Dogs are the noblest of God's creatures....

The world would be a much better place if more people acted like dogs...

(Except for the butt sniffing thing of course...)

My heart melted.

Even though I only have a cat, I do love dogs.

:ok

Sadly, the hero dog ran off and could not be found by highway workers. After the video aired on Chilean TV, many people called offering to adopt the dog. Poor thing is homeless in the streets and could be living the cush life. :(

That's a shame...

He definitely deserves a nice Porter House...

The good news is though, that apparently the fellow he saved has recovered....

Where did you get that info?

The website I found the video on initially said that dog was dead. Which was what broke my heart. Because they were at very least good friends, if not family. :(

You do know that story was from 2008...

BSG, the narrator says the injured dog lived at the end of the video you posted.

I used the YouTube video because I finally figured out how to embed properly.

But here's the skinny:
SANTIAGO, Chile — Chilean officials say they have lost hope of finding a dog whose attempted rescue of an injured animal inspired worldwide admiration.

Jorge Rivas, operations manager for Vespucio Norte Highway in Santiago, said police and highway workers had searched for the dog several times, "but not any more."

He said too much time has passed since March 23, when a surveillance camera captured images of the apparently homeless dog pulling the body of another, injured dog through busy traffic to the relative safety of a freeway median strip. The other dog, which had been hit by vehicles, died.

Rivas said earlier reports that the incident happened on Dec. 4 were based on confusion with the date the image was first shown on local television.

Hundreds of thousands of people viewed the surveillance images on Web sites and television shows and Rivas said his agency received 15 calls over the weekend from people offering to adopt the dog.

Luis Serey, 59, a taxi driver who often uses the freeway, often says the video "was impressive. This dog is a hero. I hope he gets a new life, a home. He totally deserves it."

Broadcast of the images came on the heels of an animal welfare scandal in the Chilean capital, where officials raided an Animal Protection Society accused of mistreating and killing dogs and cats in its care. Four employees of the society face charges of animal abuse. - AP
And yes, I gather it's an old story - but I just saw/read it today, and it's timeless in any case.

I'm no idiot; I'm sure if the injured dog wasn't already dead, the highway workers would have had it destroyed. Who, after all, would pay an enormous veterinary bill on a homeless animal?

But oh, my - that hero dog. I know s/he'll have biscuits aplenty Over the Rainbow Bridge.

Some stray dogs enjoy their freedom

...but I thought you were aesthetic or agnostic? Now, you believe good works are rewarded in an afterlife, for dogs, at least?
