Studies have consistently shown that the vast majority of abuse victims do not go on to be abusers. If anything, they are generally people with highly developed empathy skills.

My parents had issues and I resent some of their parenting choices, but it has no impact on you and it's not your business to bad mouth them.

I have spent a great deal of time with people who were chronically abused as children -- not just seen them now and then as part of some governmental enterprise, but actually lived with them 24/7.
The thing that has always amazed me about abusive parents is their shortisghtedness.
