He saw a child being victimized with his own eyes. He walked away and left the predator to continue his actions.

Which might not be the smartest thing to do...
If I had my wits about me to the point that I realized that might not be the right course, I know for a fact I would immediately pull my phone out of my pocket and call 911...
That was the right thing to do....(this wasn't a hundred years ago; this was 2002; I'm sure the guy had a cell phone)
Joe Paterno was placed in a position of moral uncertainty and he failed.
He was "THE BIG DOG" in the football program but when a problem landed in his lap he punted when he should have carried the ball himself and he failed. He was weak and uncertain when he needed clarity and moral strength, and he failed.
He was the big dog with the big salary and in the end he was selfish and unfit and wanted someone else to be the grown-up and deal with the ugly grown-up reality of it all and failed.
College football coaches are not heroes they are overpaid mooks. Only fools expect otherwise.
The more difficult it is for me to understand why the guy who actually saw this going on, didn't immediately call the police...
Even trying to put myself in this guy's place; imagining myself back 30 years ago, in my early 20's, and having a dream job working for a "Living Legend" ...
I still would have immediately called the police if I witnessed a child being sexually abused...
I would have done that as automatically as if I had seen someone being strangled...
PSU staff may have known about Sandusky going back to before his retirement, and his relatively early retirement may have been in exchange for a cover-up
Two columnists in PA are investigating leads related to Sandusky's 'pimping' of Second Mile youths to wealthy donors
The local DA, who went missing in 2005 and has never been found, was investigating Sandusky at the time of his disappearance

Careful counselor...I noted that his name was in the GJ report and theorized the same in the other thread. If the allegations are true, those donors are MASSIVELY stacked with cash. To the tune of $50M per year across all sources. If they Hoffa'd a big DA like him, you might find yourself in Montanna....way out in montanna.
Gricar gave Sandusky a pass previously, but he was a standup guy. Why he gave him a pass is unknown, but I would not be surprised if he didnt let it go.
To me, the most disgusting aspect of this whole disgusting affair, is the fact that the dirt bag set up a charity for "at risk" youths to use as his perversion playpen...
To go after boys who already were dealt a bad hand...
That takes a true monster...it t really doesn't get any lower...
Personally, I'd be delighted if they were able to tie this piece of human filth to the murder of that DA....

A veteran assistant coach for Syracuse University's basketball team has been put on administrative leave amid accusations he molested young boys.
Bobby Davis, now 39, told sport network ESPN that Bernie Fine molested him repeatedly for 10 years from 1984.
The university said it investigated and dismissed the allegations in 2005.
The allegations come after a former Penn State coach, Jerry Sandusky was arrested on charges of sexually abusing young boys - accusations he denies.
The allegations of abuse at Penn State led to the dismissal of the university president Graham Spanier and head football coach Joe Paterno for failing to act on the reports of molestation.
On Friday, Mr Paterno's son said that his father - one of the most famous coaches in American sport - had been diagnosed with a treatable form of lung cancer.
He added that doctors were "optimistic" his 84-year-old father would make a full recovery.

Since the story broke, a few things have occured and i would like a weigh in on how difficult this makes the job for prosecutors:
1) McQueary, the coach who alleged he saw an act, has since gone bizarre and claimed he reported it to the cops. they say no he didnt. Does this put the veracity of his GJ testimony in doubt? He is likely IMO lying as the revelation that he saw something bad and did not go to the cops didnt sit well with the public
2) A janitor who alleged he witnessed an act and reported it to other janitors (but not the cops) is batshit insane from some disease (alzheimers?)
3) Neither boy in acts 1 and 2 above has ever been identified.
therefore question #1: while Sandusky is charged with acts with boys who DID come forward, the 2 eyewitnesses, if they could testify, could not be used to testify as witnesses to acts they did not see correct? How valuable is the evidence of their testimony since it has nothing to do with the boys he is charged with?
4) Sandusky was caught at least thrice, twice in the grasp of competent (or incompetent as the case may be) authorities, once in PSU, once in Montoursville. Event one has taped convos between him and a mother admitting to showering. Case 2 has an eyewitness of him laying with a boy, but no act in progress. Each time charges were declined. The dates are 98 and IIRC 2006ish (I have to re-read to be sure) This does not surround the event in question that has everyone in an uproar
So question #2: does the fact that the 98 nabbing by the PSU/state college cops and subsequent pass by Ray Gricar hurt the prosecution/help sandusky? and while the montoursville event spawned this GJ, it resulted in no montoursvilel charges, does this help or hurt?
I ask because summing it up, no credible 3rd party remains as eyewitnesses to charged illegal acts, and only one to an uncomfy situation. The two eyewitnesess to uncharged acts are a) crazy b) acting crazy and no victims have come forward.
It was also in the news that victim1 may have changed his story;
Amendola told ABC News that Victim 1 has already changed his story, initially telling police that Sandusky fondled him, and then later claiming that Sandusky forced the boy into oral sex and raped him. Amendola will accuse the boy of embellishing the story for attention, he told ABC News.
