I Object
I Object
I object to the proposed suspensions. I've said before that in the real world free speech isn't absolute -- there are consequences to one's actions and if it is time for some to bear those consequences that is in the hands of the administrators. But because, frankly, I agree with some of what has posted about the culture here, although I don't agree with the manner in which much of it has been posted, I would prefer not to see people suspended or banned. In my opinion, nothing here has risen to the level of that kind of sanction.
Rather, I implore all of you to give yourselves all a time out and lay off the personal attacks. Everyone on this board is responsible for their own posts, and their own reaction to others posts. If you don't want to be trolled, if you don't want personal attacks to take over the board, then don't participate. Don't allow the trolls and the snipers the power to get you to play their game. None of us are perfect -- we're all human, we react, we over react. We post things we shouldn't. We get stubborn. We defend our friends. We get backed into corners. We get insulted. we get mean. But if we looked past the initial post and let the slight go, then the escalation doesn't happen, and the board goes along its merry way. Don't like a thread, then don't respond to it and it dies.
I said it on the old Car Talk boards. I'm saying it 15 years later. I'll be saying it until I'm old and grey. You don't need an ignore feature (which doesn't really work anyway), you just need to ignore. Everyone of us has the power to make this the board we want it to be.

Re: I Object
I join in everything Guin said.
For goodness' sake, you're all supposedly adults. Act like it.

GAH!
Re: I Object
Hey! I snipe.
I don't think I'm malicious, maybe a bit annoying.
I used to bust on Andrew about the flag pole thing, I haven't lately doesn't mean I won't.
I do bring out the rat and catapult here, because I don't feel like a sociopath even though I thought it was funny.
Other than that I am behind Guin and Sue...

Re: I Object
In all seriousness, I would also be against a ban of any poster, even in the short term.

Re: I Object
I completely agree with Guin. The fact is no one can "make" you angry, you, however can permit yourself to go that way.
I expect to go straight to hell...........at least I won't have to spend time making new friends.

Re: I Object
I too object to banning people even though I seldom post. I normally just skip past the posts of those I find annoying on the board. I will not name name(s) but there are certain posters who I dont read.
Re: I Object

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

Re: I Object
Well fuck you too Simpson

Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
Re: I Object
I agree with Guinevere. I don't think anyone should be suspended or banned. I don't post often, but I do read quite a lot of what's written here. And I scroll past quite a bit of it, too (my internal "ignore" button, I guess).
Re: I Object
Can the supporters of no suspension let me know their intent should the suspension go ahead?
Because quite frankly I've had a gutsful of Lo and Quaddy.

Re: I Object
That's moving the goal posts; you asked if anyone would object. Now that they do, it doesn't matter to you?

So, use the ignore function, it was supposed to be the magic wand to make this place fool-proof.
Re: I Object
Gob, whilst I understand entirely why loCA irritates you to your last nerve, I think it's reasonable to defer to the majority vote and not take any action - other than to ignore her every last post and any quoting of her posts by others.
She isn't worth compromising your principles over, even the least little bit. She isn't worth offending the good folks who have posted in this thread that they concur with Guin.
Beyond which, she is a train wreck in slow motion. At some point she'll crash and burn and no longer be around to irritate.
Finally, she wants you to do it now, so she can denigrate the action forevermore. Don't give her the satisfaction.

Re: I Object
I understand. But I do wish people would put themselves in our shoes. It's easy to tell others to ignore, especially when you are not posting here yourself, but look at mine and Hen's posts, and see the stupid shit we get from Lo after just about EVERY FUCKING POST.
Maybe Hen and I should take some time out from here, leave others to 'enjoy" Lo's comments?

I would respect your decision, and continue to try to up my post count, and you can up yours.Gob wrote:Can the supporters of no suspension let me know their intent should the suspension go ahead?

Re: I Object
Lo would be as good as gold if that happened.
I had tried to work it out with her.
I object to having to ignore posters on my Board because of their atrocious behavior.
As Andrew pointed out in the De-toxifying thread, it is akin to running away.
For the posters that don't post to object to actions taken on a Board they don't participate in does seem strange.
Perhaps if you actually return and post the scale of trolling might be reduced?
You seem to expect us to accept behaviors that you won't. Hence your lack of posting.
Does that seem reasonable?

Hen, I am working on posting more! And some of what I write is almost intelligible! And you and I posted at the same time! Freaky!
