APT: You know you're getting old when...

Post by Crackpot »

....you can not tell if a given young adult is functionally retarded or if that's just how kids are these days.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

I think it would depend upon the teenager.

I've encountered some as dumb as a box of rocks and others with intelliegence, sensitivity and insight well beyond their years.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

Sadly, a lot of kids are like that these days. Remember to beat your son regularly, so he doesn't turn out that way ;)

I don't have a lot of contacts with young adults, but I don't think intelligence is the issue. There are some lessons that can only be learned by making mistakes and having to deal with them.

I find myself having to restrain myself from telling nephews, nieces, and young co-workers about my experiences (and how they can learn from them), but they don't care.

I know I didn't care when I was 21, which is why I was so good at making mistakes.

To paraphrase George Carlin...

You know you're getting old when you drop something, start to bend down to pick it up and then ask yourself, "Do I really need that?"
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?
