I dunno, but I had the same problem with a ten pound cat. She could cover as much real estate as a 150 pound human!

I have a 10-pound cat who takes up 3/4 of a king-sized bed, so I bought her a bed of her own. It sits on the floor next to my side, right next to the big bed. It took a couple of weeks of training, but now she sleeps there every night and we don't fight with a cat for control of the space. I sleep so much better. And she still comes up to visit to wake me up in the morning, or for a snuggle before we go to sleep at night.

You have a very trainable cat, Guin! The only thing I've ever been able to train our cat(s) to do is shed, eat, purr, produce hairballs...well, you get the picture.

Surprised the heck out of me too kristina. Believe me, as soon as the humans are out of the bed, she takes over. We only get it at night because of her gracious concession.

How did you do it? I've got two cat beds in the living room (on the sofa, where Her Highness will be protected from any drafts), and she sleeps almost anywhere else that has an uncluttered horizontal surface. She's not allowed in the bedroom, as the SO is allergic and needs at least ONE room with not too much cat hair. (The ten pounder who could take up so much acreage was around when the Spuosal Unit was alive, and kitties were allowed in the bedroom)

I put her bed next to the bed, and then put a little kitty nip in it. At night, when I was settled down, I'd pick her up off my bed and move her into hers, and then pet her there, rub her belly, and give her lots of attention. Since she likes to sleep near my head (and she likes belly rubs ), it seems to work for her. I may also have put a used tshirt or something else with my scent in it, at first. She sleeps there just about every night now.

As for the rest of the house -- she goes wherever she wants. Pretty much anything in the place that is soft and horizontal are her "beds" including the guest room where I stash the non-cat people. I've now had to lock her out of that room -- it had become her favorite place for a while.

My dog has her own bed in my bedroom, and she'll stay in it if I make her. But she's so damned cuddly - she always seems to end up getting invited up on the bed, whether I've been single or coupled.

They must just want to be with you. I know Cat5 used to sleep with the roommate, but Cat1 & Cat2 aren't allowed to do that, with the help of barricades and armed guards. No, I kid, we all just sleep with the doors closed. Cat1 prefers to be let out at night, and Cat2 prefers to stay in now that it's cold ...the old man. but they both 'perch' sleep during the day. I don't know how they manage it. You'll find Cat1 bundled into a ball fast asleep on the porch rail, and Cat2 the same way on a couch arm.
When it was warmer, it was like being guarded by tiny griffins, because you'd have one cat on a rail at the back door, and the other on a rail at the front door. If you stood right in the middle of the house you could see them both, protecting the house.
You'd think they liked finding the most uncomfortable position possible, because if they do come in and fall asleep on a soft chair or pillow, they always twist themselves into an 'S' so their is chin is facing up :shrug

Oh my baby is adorable too, and she will spend all day in bed with me (as she did last week when I was sick), but she knows bedtime and where she sleeps. Which is what I wanted/needed. Cute as she is, my good quality sleep is a higher priority.

Kristina try wearing a shirt you no longer want one day, when you take it off put it on the cats bed.

Reintroduce the cat to that bed (shirt in place), I've HEARD that this works sometimes.

Actually I guess any article of clothing would work, a shirt just seems the easiest...

How do you tell a cat, you're not in the kitchen because of anything to do with them? :?:

You can tell them anything you want, but, at least in my house, it doesn't make a bit of difference. It's the cat's house, and my purpose in her life is to make sure there is a steady supply of food and water, a soft and warm place to sleep, a carpet to chuck up hairballs onto, and lost of furniture to shed on.

So it was 10 degrees here yesterday morning (and minus 10 wind chill), and when I woke up, kitty was not in her bed, but on top of one of the feather pillows on the other side of the bed (Mom is here this week, so my Swede is not). Last night she went to sleep in her bed, but when I woke up, she was back on the pillow.

So much for my well-trained girl. This habit is going to have to be broken by next week, or there is going to be quite the pillow fight!
