Well here's the thing about that...
If there had been no Russian Front, (and the the Russians lost closer to 30 million than 10 million
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Fr ... _War_II%29) There would have been an additional 3 to 4 million German troops available to repel Operation Overlord in the West, and the D-Day landings would never have succeeded....
An Allied victoery was a foregone conclusion for one reason: The Manhatten Project. It might have taken reducing a few cities to radioactive slag, but the Allied victory was assured.
Jarl is correct on that score....
We would have prevailed over the Nazis without the Soviets, but we would have needed to use nuclear weapons in Europe to do it....
And whether or not the American public would have had the stomach to support that is questionable.
