Shit Perth People Say.

Post by Gob »

Did you know Perth has more sharks than taxis?

The correct answer if you are a true Perthian or Perthite is "yeah...nah" according to Shit Perth People Say.

While the tourists admire the beaches and wineries, colloquial and commonly used phrases like "I live in Nedlands - the poor part" and "I don't do public transport" have gone viral today with the release of a self-deprecating short film shot in the format of the popular (and equally as comedic) Shit Girls Say.

Produced and uploaded to YouTube by Subiaco based advertising agency Meerkats, the film pokes fun at Perth's questionable coffee culture, expensive menus and climate with quips like "we've got evaporative air conditioning which is great unless it's hot. Or humid." and "40 bucks for a pub steak?! Yeah, ok."

While Tourism WA may not be endorsing a number of the messages, “Rotto?! You can go to Bali for half the price”, the video has already been shared and liked on social media networks hundreds of times since launching this morning.
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”

"Perth" ? It sounds like it was named after some exotic organ meats. "Thymus and perth?" "With every order of tripe we're throwing in a free Perth!" Next time your family is dining on road kill don't forget to save the Perth! It's the best part.

Did she really say, "My sister's friend actually dated Hitler..."?

I backed that part up four times and replayed it....

Sure sounds like that's what she said....

It sounded to me something like "Hitler's aunt"?

With their thick accents it's impossible to be sure.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

Possible.

These people are too hard to understand with their unintelligble speech and idiosyncratic sentence structure.

She says ... "My sister's friend actually dated Heath Ledger"

... and they speak just fine - not hard to understand at all, and no accent. :-)

Wow Alice, your inner ear must be tuned to a completely different wavelength then mine... 8-)

I could have listened to that 100 times and never have guessed "Heath Ledger"

I was certain she was saying "Hitler" ...I just wasn't sure what she was saying next....(I only understood about half of what that guy in the "Australia Day" video that was posted was talking about)

If that was clear to you, you could pick up some extra cash doing dubbing and writing sub titles for movies made in Australian, so that people in the English speaking world will be able to understand them.... :P

It must be nice to be bi-lingual...

I'm not bi-lingual - I'm Australian!!
They speak pretty well how I do - and pretty much how I hear people speaking every day. Some of it's a little exaggerated, but not much.

And for the record - I live in Melbourne; that's the place those people in Perth want to come and live in. :-D

We speak English just fine, mate. It's the Americans who've buggered it up

She said, "Heath Ledger." Unless that is a Youtube video from early 20th century, I believe her sister's friend would have been a little too young for Adolph.

It must be a very isolated local thing. Sort of just appropriate to the Perth region.

The only amusing local saying they have there for me is " yeah .... no". I can use that one in my job when people run up and say it is vitally important that the Minister reas they paper by tomorrow.

As for the need for so many of you needing subtitles to understand English, why don't you start listening to more accents? it really isn't difficult and you won't make yourself out to be such pillocks when you openy admit that any other accent than American is too difficult for you to cope with.
