Due to an early fascination with Australian and British films, I do okay with deciphering accents, for the most part.
I will admit to having had to utilize subtitles on one or two films I watched which were set in Ireland and Scotland and in which the actors were native speakers with very thick brogues.

I remember really wishing there were subtitles in some of the Taggart episodes...

"Inspayctor, there's bin another muddher!"

Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

I went to see Bloody Sunday in the theatre and didn't understand 1/3 of the dialogue. I had to rent it when it came out on DVD so I could watch it with English subtitles on. I remember thinking that was a bit ridiculous. I've also struggled with a few of Robert Carlyle's films, smaller UK-based ones. Clearly the British actors make the effort to speak with less accent when doing a Hollywood film - I'm sure the directors insist.
Accents are fascinating to me; I'm terribly impressed with actors who are able to pick up non-native ones and drop their own as necessary. Of course, the really bad attempts are painful.

Interesting you should say that, I read this today;
Hollywood actor Gary Oldman had to enrol in voice classes to perfect his speech for the film adaptation of classic British spy novel Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - because the London-born native had lost his accent.
The star set up home in Los Angeles several years ago and had no idea how much his speech had changed since moving to the US until he signed on to play lead character George Smiley.
"The weird thing is, I had to do a bit of voice work to get my English accent back. I've not really lost my accent completely, but it is now a cross-pollination," he told W magazine.
The veteran actor's extra work paid off - his performance has landed him a Best Actor Oscar nomination.
Oldman has urged the producers of the James Bond films to study his spy thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - because he thinks 007 should be a better undercover man.
The Oscar-nominated star admits he has always been puzzled by Ian Fleming's flamboyant hero.
Oldman explains, "He's (Smiley) the polar opposite of Bond. He is the man in the mac who you would pass in the street and not look at twice, whereas Bond, it's always struck me, announces who he is everywhere he goes - to the villain, to the guy that wants to kill him.
"He wears a white tuxedo and you go, 'Where's Bond...?' He's just pulled up in the Aston Martin ... I've always found that strange.
"(It's like), 'I'm Bond, kill me!'"

That's really funny...
I've seen Gary Oldman for years, and I had no idea he was English till I read that post....
As a matter of fact Strop, when I first saw the promos for the movie, I thought of you...

LOL!! I have to say that Gaz never was good with accents, but a good actor. His "Sid Vicious" was almost Dick Van Dyke quality.
