The fundamental reason that Romney tanked was that Republican voters really don't like him. It may all be due to the hardshell religious bigotry of the 'cracker Republicans' which has given him an uphill battle dating back 4 years, but it isn't helped by the facile lying about his beliefs. The voters saw enough of Gingrich to know they didn't like him either. The only reason they voted for Santorum is that his poor showings have kept him out of the public eye.

I don't think they have a candidate that isn't deeply disliked, with cause.

Politically, she is the mirror image of Rush Limbaugh, without the wit or charm. Or money.
I don't think it's physically possible to have less wit or charm than Mr. Limbaugh.

So Rick Santorum is now President of the GOP of America, for this week only. But who cares, when there's so much Callista!

As for Maureen Dowd, I never really "got" her. Apparently, I'm not the only one, 'cause for a while Sara Benincasa was chewing MoDo to pieces every week in a feature called "Reblogging Maureen." which was often pretty funny.

I'm pretty sure the Princess Sparkle Pony hair updates are every bit as equally intellectual as the miles of columns on Hillary's pantsuits. Kind of ironic, that slap.

Princess Sparkle Pony may be something of an acquired taste, but I think the blog is illuminating in its own flamingly off-kilter kind of way (e.g., check out the item further down on Jennifer Rubin's anti-Newt campaign.)

Turns out a candidate actually has to plan ahead and get themselves on the ballot. You know, kind of like taking a trip and checking on your passport status and remembering to get the airline tickets.

The campaign is a marathon. The candidates have to focus their resources in the races where they have the most to gain. There was not a great deal at stake in these three races. Santorum has won four races, but has few delegates to show for it.

I don't dislike Maureen Dowd for being a liberal, but for doing little more than smarmy rumor-mongering in her columns. She repeats unsubstantiated slurs all the time, as though it were adding anything to the discussion, which it is not.

Isn't it a wonder that Limbaugh can make $60 million plus every year and have the most popular radio program of the past 50 years, and yet according to one of our correspondents he has no wit or charm. I guess those 20 million listeners didn't get the word yet.

Or the people who listen to him are looking for things other than wit and charm.

You don't need wit or charm to spew what will make ratings. Oh, and he makes $40 million a year with 15 million viewers. And Paul Harvey was more popular.

But then you're comparing apples and oranges by comparing radio with newspaper anyway. And your "one of our correspondents" bit was cute.

By just such reasoning we can prove that Howard Stern is actually possessed of wit and charm. Father Coughlin was quite popular in his day as well ... for someone of the same category of loathsomeness.

Father Coughlin did not broadcast during the past fifty years. As a point of reference, I suspect Bishop Sheen had audiences that dwarfed all of them, albeit in a different medium and a different time.

Anyone who has listened to more than a couple hours of Limbaugh knows that one of the vital aspects of his program is the occasional injection of humor - making fun of Democrats, mainly. Without the humor his program would be no better than a dozen other guys who provide essentially the same information and viewpoint.

Howard Stern would appear to be a unique "talent" who appeals mainly to adolescent males of all ages. My impression - based on VERY limited listening - is that his sole appeal is saying things that other people think but don't say out loud.

Where "humor" is typically "vicious attacks".

This is the guy who made fun of soldiers who didn't approve of the war in Iraq by calling them "phony". He's just Howard Stern with a different audience.

Editor’s note: This is another in a series of “WND/WENZEL POLLS” conducted exclusively for WND by the public-opinion research and media consulting company Wenzel Strategies.

WASHINGTON – For critics of Barack Obama, 2012 has been portrayed as a do-or-die year for the country
– an election that will determine whether America stays on the road to European-style socialism or veers right to reclaim its positions as the most vibrant economy in the world and the home of individual liberty.

But the 2012 election is looking more like a replay of 2008 than a do-over.

The latest WND/Wenzel Poll shows none of the current crop of Republican presidential candidates has solidified the base of the party, with one in five GOP voters leaning toward support of Obama in November.

The results are from the public-opinion research and media consulting company Wenzel Strategies. The poll was conducted by telephone Feb. 1-3, 2012, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.44 percentage points.

They reported on the news this morning that PPP (Public Policy Polling) was hinting in tweets last night that they are going to be releasing a new national preference poll that shows Santorum now in the lead for the GOP nomination...

It will be interesting to see what the next polls in Arizona and Michigan show...

To me, I think it's obvious that the most predictive number in this election isn't what shows up in any poll or any collection of polls...

It's the unemployment rate number...

Not necessarily because of it's importance in and of itself, since there are so many who aren't counted...(I understand that if the work force number that was being counted was only as large as the day Obama took Office, the rate would be over 10%) But because of the way it affects the psychology of the independent swing voters about the direction the economy is headed...

I believe if that by election day the reported unemployment rate is below 8% and dropping, then Obama wins, no matter who the nominee is.

If it's above 8.5% and rising, then either Romney or Santorum can beat Obama, (though not Gingrich...I think the rate would have to be 10% or worse for that to happen, and that isn't in the cards)

If it's somewhere in between and stagnant then it's a coin toss and the margin either way will be razor thin...

Why, is Howard less loathsome now than he was back in the 90s? For pure disgust he really sets the mark.

Rush Limbaugh spouts hatred and lies and is probably the more evil force.
