I have not taken a survey on this point, and only speak for everyone I have even spoken to on the subject. In fact, not more than a month ago during discussions with a company headquartered in Manchester, one of the sales reps said something to the effect, "Don't call me a Brit; I'm a Scotsman."
But what did he know?
One swallow does not a summer make. There are Cornishmen who will claim not to be English, there are Shetlanders who would claim to be a different race to the Scots.
But all are Brits, it says so on their passports.

He knows it depends on your audience. When a Scot is trying to communicate to an American who gets the UK and Britian confused and thinks that EVERYONE on the planet only thinks Englishmen are British, he might like to break it down further for you in order that you understand.
