Hilarious video footage shows the 21-year-old, known only as Martin D, shouting a swear word as the glasses slipped off his tray towards the country's leader.
Merkel at first appears shocked as the cold drinks run down her back. Aides standing behind her throw their arms into the air, with one holding her head in their hands.
Give Angela points for poise:
It looks like the fellow walking past the waiter actually bumped the tray that caused the spillage.
