American conservative pundit Rush Limbaugh called a Georgetown University student a “slut” on his popular talk show this week after she argued that birth control should be included under health insurance at religious institutions in the United States.
Sandra Fluke, a Georgetown law student, made her case at a hearing last Thursday on the Jesuit university’s policy on contraception by arguing students there end up paying up to $1,000 annually for birth control because they lack coverage under current health plans, reports The Washington Post.
Limbaugh took aim at her comments on his show Wednesday: “What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute,” he remarked.
She’s having so much sex she can’t afford the contraception
“She wants to be paid to have sex,” Limbaugh continued. “She’s having so much sex she can’t afford the contraception.”
I do not believe for a single instant that Rush Limbaugh is so ignorant of how The Pill works, that he doesn't know that it is completely unrelated to the amount of sex one has...

What she said was, it could cost her up to $3,000 for birth control (presumably pills) during her three years in law school. This was her "argument" as to why contraceptive costs ought to be included in mandatory insurance coverage.
Tangent: Would you be proud of a daughter who went before a national audience and demanded such coverage so that she would be able to copulate promiscuously and without concern while in law school?
Does she have any obligation to use the most cost effective means of contraceptive (other than ABSTINENCE)? Doesn't a condom have the added benefit of preventing STD's? Shouldn't the insurance company be able to require that she protect herself from both pregnancy and the clap?
Given the fact that law school lasts for approximately 32 months (September first year through May third year), is $94/per month a realistic figure for B.C. pills?
Should I be able to demand that my health insurance cover an aspirin a day, since I am old and in a "high risk" group for heart disease?
If not, why not? It could save my life. Millions of people who do not now take such pills would start taking them if it were "free."
I wonder if the Slut is a registered democrat. I presume she's not married - to a man.

Dave...
First of all the woman is 30 years old....
Second, she wouldn't need to be "copulating promiscuously"....
She could be in a committed monogamous relationship the whole time (hell she could even be married) having sex a few times a month with just the one person, and the cost would be exactly the same .....
And it would take a peculiar world view indeed to characterize such a person as a "slut"....

Funny how you keep bringing up aspirin, look at what is now mandatory for new insurance policies since 23 September 2010. What's that? Aspirin is now covered for certain age groups? Interesting.

This is exceptionally stupid, even for you.

He has no excuse. It's been mentioned on this forum before when he want on one of his rants.
Considering a woman who takes contraceptive pills a sluts, makes sixty-three percent of reproductive-age women sluts! Wow, can I move to the USA? You have many sluts!! Sexy time!!
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”
US President Barack Obama has called a US law student to offer support after she was attacked by radio host Rush Limbaugh for her contraception views.
Mr Obama told Sandra Fluke he was disappointed she had been the subject of "unfortunate attacks", according to White House spokesman Jay Carney.
Limbaugh called Ms Fluke a "slut" and suggested her testimony to US lawmakers made her "a prostitute"

So he shits on a woman for using contraceptives while using Viagra for himself. Just another hypocrite who dgs49 should hate but who again gets a free pass.

That's awfully liberal for a MARRIED woman...
Sometimes it seems as though one has to cross the line just to figger out where it is
I'm beginning to get the impression that you aren't real clear on how this whole "birds and bees" thing works...
I was thinking about that also.
But then again, I believe that in the minds of people who look to Rush for direction in their lives, any woman who stands up and speaks out on a controversial issue must be a lesbian, because no heterosexual subservient wife would ever voice such an opinion regarding the use of birth control pills.
Lesbians get preggles all the time; they want to be fulfilled, eh? How they do it is up to them.
What about the cost issue?
Here is a woman who says that she MUST have contraception, and implies that $100/month PC pills are her only option.
It is absurd on its face. A, there are generics that are available for a small fraction of that cost, and B, condoms are cheaper and, when used conscientiously, just as effective.
So not only does she want contraception, but she wants the more expensive contraception that she prefers, at no cost to her.
Dave, out here in civilisation we have accepted that free contraception is not only cost effective, but a normal and healthy thing. It's not your fault you live in a country that's so fucked up about sex!
Oh, hang about, its due to the backwards dumbass attitudes to sex of people like you that you do live in a country fucked up about sex. Carry on!
I'm just amazed that there enough people stupid enough to give Rush "drug addict" Limbaugh an audience.
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”
I agree with Liberty. It should be avaiable free from any pharmacy, on prescription.

Hell yeah! If people get ill through preventable diseases, that's their fucking fault, let the fuckers die!!!

In which case they wouldn't want to use contraceptives.

Generic pills don't have the quality control that comes with brand name pills. And condoms aren't 100% effective and have their own set of problems.
dgs49 wrote:So not only does she want contraception, but she wants the more expensive contraception that she prefers, at no cost to her.
She wants the brand that works for her. Not all pills are created equally.
Aren't we getting away from the point here, is it right to brand a woman a slut in this way?
