Police chief sends officer to reporter's house

Saturday, March 10, 2012

(03-10) 08:53 PST Berkeley, Calif. (AP) --

Berkeley's police chief has come under fire after he sent an officer to a newspaper reporter's home in the middle of the night to demand changes to a story.

Sgt. Mary Kusmiss knocked on Bay Area News Group reporter Doug Oakley's door around 12:45 a.m. Friday on Chief Michael Meehan's orders.

Meehan apparently thought Oakley misreported what he said during a public meeting about the police department's response in a local resident's beating death.

Oakley told the Oakland Tribune (link to Tribune article) he was shaken by Kusmiss's visit. First Amendment experts decried it as an attempt at censorship by intimidation.

Meehan has since apologized, calling his actions "overzealous." He said he didn't think Oakley would be intimidated or upset since Kusmiss regularly deals with the media.

Gee whiz, in the birth place of the "free speech" movement no less.... :D

By showing up without warning, in uniform, pounding on their door at quarter to one in the morning to demand that they change a story?

:loon

The fact that he would order an officer to do this is bizarre enough; his matter-of-fact excuse is even stranger...

This guy should be fired....

Of course that may not happen; I believe the mayor is the guy who once sent out goon squads to grab papers off the street that had an article he didn't like....

My cat went on holiday.

Then a strange weirdo freak showed up on my front porch and I took his picture and created an avatar.

It’s me cleverly disguised as a cool dude but looking somewhat like myself. The picture was taken yesterday with an iPod.

A while back at the CSB, Joe posted a head shot him of himself, in which he looked a lot like Richard Dreyfuss...

I commented about it at the time; it was around Christmas time, he took a face shot of himself and one of Steve..(that he cropped from a picture Steve had in his avatar) and put it on one of those novelty sites where you can use put your own faces on the characters...

If I remember correctly, this one had him and Steve dancing together in elf costumes....

It was pretty funny.... :D

Good memory Jim.

But I don't think I look like him and hope that I don't.

JG. THE OLD FART IN THE FISHIN' HAT

I thought that was Ted Turner.

So, what's with the cat? You're not one of 'those' people, are you?

I put the cat up as a welcome to you, RayThom, because I remembered your (un)fondness for felines.

The truth is I wanted to put up a picture of my dog but I don't have one.

Cats are Satan's representatives on Earth.

That is all.
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?
