Chip shops: oh my cod, the plaices I've seen
Part of the pleasure of going to a chip shop is savouring the name on the sign. Here are some of the best from around the world

Tomorrow sees the annual National Fish and Chip awards. Will last year's winners, Fish and Chips at 149, in Bridlington, East Yorkshire, hang on to their crown? Or will they move over and allow a more colourfully named restaurant their moment in the spotlight? Surely half the fun of fish and chips joints is in the terrible puns that might be on the signs above them? Here is just a small sample of some corkers from around the world:
New Cod on the Block, Sheffield
Frying Nemo, North Humberside
Codrophenia, Sheffield
The Frying Squad, Northern Ireland
A Fish Called Rhondda, Mid-Glamorgan
O'my Cod Fish and Chips, Majorca
A Salt & Battery, New York
The Frying Scotsman, Portland, Oregon
The Fish Plaice, London
The Codfather, West Cumbria
Northern Sole, Broomhill, Sheffield
Mister Chips, Whitby
The Rock n Sole Plaice, London

Re: Chippy puns
Well that was a wasted op-perch-tuna-ty for a good load of fish puns if I ever saw one.
Bah!

Oh my Cod! I can't believe you went fishing for moray of that just for the halibut~

All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

I'm not a clever punner, sorry.
But I had to chip in to mention how dear to my cod-loving criminal lawyer heart 'A Salt & Battery' is; I can't imagine a batter cover for my essential omega 3s.

Looks to me like Gob started these puns on porpoise, so I'm gonna hafta kick his bass.

Personally, I don’t believe in bros before hoes, or hoes before bros. There needs to be a balance. A homie-hoe-stasis, if you will.

Whale, I can sea you're all floundering a bit.
I f-eel it might be bass-t to leave you for a bit until you're fin-ished.

I'm not peased with the responses.

Re: Chippy puns
They seem like fairly small scale businesses. I wonder what their net profits are?

I've heard the owner's are fairly gullible - they tend to fall for things hook, line and sinker...
