Not fucking likely, Joe.

Not only did he accuse me of defending rubato out of some amorous intention, he likened me to the kind of woman who seeks to engage in relationship with depraved murderers.

That's pretty fucking low, even for LJ.

And why this character assassination? Because I dare refuse to pile on the 'hate rube' bandwagon - the one getting all his attention now that he's kissed and made up with Andrew D and loCA's not around.

Keep it up, LJ. I've got better things to do in this life than hang someplace where I'm personally attacked for a divergent opinion by my so-called friends. That self-requested ban is looking better every day.

I want to apologize to BSG....

My frustration with her inability to see what seems extremely obvious does not justify some of the gratuitously nasty things that I said about her.

There is really no excuse for some of the characterizations I hurled at her. I regret having done so, and sincerely apologize.

That's what I like.

An apology for all to see.

Now, we can all focus on the subject of this thread.

Oops....

never mind.

Jarl, that's three or four times you've said that recently. Why?
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

Because the recent BS has made the fact that plan B has jumped the shark pretty obvious.

Jarl and I are perhaps just more sensitive types, bothered by the name-calling and such more than others.

rubato is clearly less bothered by it than I am, and I credit him for it.

I wish I hadn't brought it up, but since I did, I guess I would just say that it's very obvious a small group of regular posters here don't like rubato; that was clear even over at CSB. I have never really understood because I wasn't witness to the beginning of the feud. I certainly have no particular affection for rubato, as he's slammed me more than once when he thought I'd stated an untenable position. He's never, however (that I can recall), called me names.

Yes, he's very confident in his positions and assertions, even when they are wrong. He has a certain arrogance. Call me crazy (but please, don't call me an aspiring prison wife), but I don't see him as any worse than some others here who post with the same kind of uber confidence.

But whatever; it would just be nice if we could discuss issues with great energy, disagreeing endlessly when necessary, but refraining from name-calling and all that.

However, it does occur to me that I have never known a time when some conflict wasn't going on; when I first ventured on to CSB years ago, it was a debate over a disabled kid at a showing of March of the Penguins over which Gwen and The Hen got into it, which developed into the piling on and taking of sides. The Hen ended up leaving. So far as I can recall, one conflict has morphed into another over the years (and yes, I've been involved in some of them) and it seems like maybe that is just how it is at online forums?

Maybe it's just something I have to either accept or be done with.

I blame no one but myself for that ultimate choice.

You give up much too easily.

Things like the LoCAdrama and other personal bickering and flare-ups are normal for a place like this that brings together people with differing opinions and opposite ways of looking at things.

It would be boring here, in my opinion, if people didn't possess the passion and the ability to express their views without the fear of being censored.

If the fact that LoCA was 'suspended' bothers you, I understand. But I agree with the decision.

If I didn't agree, I would simply disappear from this forum.

The contrary...she should not be permitted to return unless and until she can provide proof she has compleated rehab. I was absolutely dead serious when I first posted that.

Personally...I don't give a shit. But I do see how it destroys a board. It destroyed the CSB, it will destroy Plan B. debate is fine...but Rubato does not debate. He insults...he is much like Andrew in that respect.

It just strikes me as arrogant that someone would call for the whole board to be closed just because they as an individual don't like it anymore.

My thoughts on rubato have been expressed many times, as emphatically as possible using this medium.

But the quote at the top of the thread is apropos. The essence of rubato's "charm" is that he considers those who disagree with him to be defective (I'll leave his bigotry for another time).

There is nothing wrong with favoring the death penalty, or with wishing that our most heinous criminals would be executed. This is quite normal and universal. Even in Europe, where there is "pride" that most countries don't do executions anymore, clear majorities opposed the abolition, which was pushed through by "elites" in the various parliaments. Poll any population in the Western World today on whether they favor execution of Islamist terrorists who blow up trains, buildings, and whatnot, and I would guarantee a clear majority for the death penalty.

And look also at the popular culture. Why is "Dexter' a folk hero? Why do audiences cheer when the bad guy is shot?

Because they are not sexually satisfied?
