Just for Dales...

Is it just me or does he look like George Carlin after a bad weekend in vegas ...

So he looks at this discussion, with all the depth and thoughtfulness that's been offered, on both sides of the equation, and he comes to that conclusion...they just love a good killin'.

Re: Just for Dales...
It would be interesting to know what percentage of that number had already gotten into trouble before they dropped out...85% of HS dropouts will become involved with the criminal justice system;
Or what percentage were already involved in anti-social/destructive behavior that would likely lead to them getting into trouble...
In other words, to what extent is dropping out of High School a result of a pattern of anti-social behavior, rather than the cause?
I don't know the answer to that, but I suspect the percentage is significant...
One rarely wakes up out of the blue one day and suddenly decides to drop out of high school...
It usually happens after a pattern of destructive behavior; excessive drug use, truancy, joining a gang or group of similarly inclined losers, petty crime, etc.....

Re: Just for Dales...
Duh.
The point is, we'd all be better off putting a ton more resources into early intervention - starting at Headstart and going forward from there.
It's far easier (and cheaper) to build up a child than it is to attempt to repair a broken adult. Instead of the billions spent on incarcerating the largest prison population in the world (more than double that of China), we could spend a fraction of that amount truly meeting the needs of abused/neglected children, providing the resources necessary to address 'destructive behavior; excessive drug use, truancy, joining a gang or group of similarly inclined losers, petty crime, etc.....'

Re: Just for Dales...
Kids don't learn to cuss at headstart, they don't learn disrespect there either or many other things.
Some things can't be changed unless they are thwarted at their inception.
That is at home...

What is "headstart"?

I think social services may offer such programs, or at l;east similar themed, on a regional basis dales, but I don't know of any national program.

So we should just shoot all the HS dropouts and that's it then?bigskygal wrote:

Sorta like if a frog had wings, I bet even Norway has prisons...

As a high school dropout, I'd be very much against shooting all the high school dropouts.

Infamous US serial killer Charles Manson has been refused parole, officials say, following the latest automatic review of his sentence after more than 40 years behind bars.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said the 77-year-old Manson did not attend his parole review meeting, and would not be eligible for parole again for another 15 years.
"The Board of Parole Hearings (BPH) denied parole today to inmate Charles Manson, 77, at a parole suitability hearing at California State Prison-Corcoran in Kings County," said a CDCR statement.
"It was Manson's 12th parole suitability hearing conducted by a BPH panel. He will be considered for another parole review in 15 years. Inmate Manson did not attend his hearing."
A new photograph of Manson, jailed for his role in a series of gruesome murders, was released last week. Dated June 2011, it showed Manson with dishevelled grey hair and a full beard.

Clang Bang Bang (The Iron Door) lyrics
TALK:
Oh yeah I got it
SING:
Clang bang clang
Went the big iron door
They put me in a cell
With a concrete floor
Nine other men in that cell with me
Moanin' their fate, with destiny
Clang bang clang
Clang bang clang clang
Early in the mornin'
At the crack of dawn
They wake us to the tune of a bong bong bong
Line up for chow
Munchin' on bread
Drinkin' black coffee with that noise in my head
Clang bang clang
Clang bang clang bang clang
The judge said to me now boy
You've had it
~ C.M.
