Miss Corey's Performance

Post by Lord Jim »

I have to say that I was absolutely blown away by Florida State Attorney Angela Corey's magnificent performance in her press conference a couple of days ago announcing the second degree murder charges against George Zimmerman in the Florida shooting case....

The video of her press conference should be required viewing in every DA's office in the country as a primer on how to handle the public and press aspects of a high profile case.

She didn't hit a single wrong note. She was gracious, calm, gave excellent explanations for her decision, and her actions, refused to be drawn into recriminations, and provided easy to understand information about how the process works; while at the same time making completely clear, in a very persuasive way that the process would go forward appropriately and not be tried in the press.

In just about a half an hour she really went an enormous distance in restoring the faith and confidence in this process that had been badly undermined by a series of blunders and highly questionable decisions prior to her involvement.

No matter what your personal opinions based on the fragmentary information about this that has been available may be, it was impossible to come away from watching that press conference with anything less than full confidence that it is this lady's intention to pursue justice in this case with out prejudice or favor, and that she has all the skills required to do so...

Hell, even Al Sharpton apologized for doubting that she would do this...(He apologized to Governor Scott, who appointed her to take over the investigation as well)

I knew nothing about Miss Corey, prior to this, but I predict a bright political future for her in Florida...

WTF? You're talking about an attorney, then she has a "bright political future"? Your system is weird!!!

What's so unusual about attorneys serving as legislators? Is that uncommon in the UK/OZ?

Prosecutors clean up after cops a good deal of the time; the ethical ones do, anyway - and they are not so few and far between.

I've steered clear of following the exhaustive play by play of this case, but I do seem to recall hearing that the police investigator who first reviewed the situation thought an arrest/charge was appropriate, but he was overruled by his chief of police.

Sounds like that wrong has been rectified. Now it's up to a jury, and only one of twelve needs convincing to take Zimmerman's side of the story. I predict the jury hangs, or acquits.
