Perhaps I'll go make myself a ham sandwich while I wait for someone to figure it out.

I've not spent enough time in this thread to figure out the concept.

Am I supposed to simply 'name that tune' based on lyrics someone posted?

Is it really that simple?

If so, no wonder this thread bores me.

If not, then I suppose it's much too intellectual of a thread topic for me to comprehend.

Here's my contribution...

Scooter posted lyrics that would be your swan song if you attempted to sing it while eating a ham sandwich and lying in a bed in a motel.

It's a myth, but I thought it would make a good hint regardless.

I suppose I'll have to try posting a slightly redacted version of the chorus:
And _____ _____ _____
Growing stronger
Warm and wilder
_____ _____ everyday
_____ everyday

Oh Jeebus, "Getting Better Everyday," and yes your taste is way weird, Scooter. It was like the B side to "Make Your Own Kind of Music," right? I remember them both from the radio when I was a kid, pure sugar.

And talk about sweet:

Ettie in the room a-cry
Mama say she must wipe her eye
Papa say she no fi foolish
Like she never been to school at all
It is no wonder
It's a perfect ponder
Why they were dancing in the bar room last night.

Hello?

Hello?

Not ONE OF YOU could identify "Sweet & Dandy" by Toots & the Maytals, even after I gave you half the title?

Sheesh.

Okay, let's try this one:

I was down at the stadium
Where twenty thousand girls called their names out to me
Marie! Ruth! But to tell you the truth
I didn't hear them, I didn't see
I let my eyes rise to that big tower clock
And I heard those bells chiming in my heart
Going ding dong ding dong ding dong ding dong
Ding dong ding dong ding dong ding dong
Remember the time
That you came to my room
And you whispered to me and we took the big plunge and
Oh you were so good, oh you were so fine
And I'm gonna tell the world
That I made you mine
GAH!

I had never heard of the song or the artist. That one is also a mystery.

????????!!!!!!????!!!!?!?!!?!!?!!

Toots & The Maytals have been international stars for more than 40 years; they may have actually invented reggae. They were featured in the Jimmy Cliff movie, The Harder They Come, which is where the clip above is from ("Sweet & Dandy" was a big hit at the time). You might know their song "Pressure Drop," covered by a million other bands (including Robert Palmer, The Clash, The Specials and Izzy Stradlin). They had monster international hits with "Funky Kingston," "Reggae Got Soul," "Monkey Man," "54-46 (That's My Number)," and a cover of "Country Roads," to name just a few.

The verse quoted above is actually the last verse of the song; I thought the opening lines (a kind of prologue) might be too well known to provide any kind of challenge. But here's the rest of the song after the prologue up to the first chorus:

I walk in a room, you know, I look so proud
I'm moving in this here atmosphere where anything's allowed
Then I go to this here party and I just get bored
Until I look out the window see a sweet young thing
Humping on the parking meter, leaning on the parking meter
Oh she looks so good, oh she looks so fine
And I got this crazy feeling that I'm gonna make her mine

Oh I'll put my spell on her
Here she comes
Walking down the street
Here she comes
Coming through my door
Here she comes
Crawling up my stair
Here she comes
Waltzing through the hall in a pretty red dress and
Oh she looks so good, oh she looks so fine
And I got this crazy feeling that I'm gonna make her mine

And then I hear this knocking on my door
Hear this knocking on my door
And I look up to the big tower clock
And say, Oh my God it's midnight
And my baby
Is walking through the door, leaning on my couch
She whispers to me and I take the big plunge and
Oh she was so good, oh she was so fine
And I'm gonna tell the world that I just made her mine

Then I said darling
Tell me your name
She told me her name
She whispered to me, she told me her name
And her name is
And her name is
And her name is
And her name is
GAH!

People say I'm no good
But they never never do they say
Why their world is so mixed up
Or how it got that way

They all look at me and they frown
Do I really look so strange
If they really dug themselves
I know they'd want to change

Everybody says you're no good
'Cause you don't do like they think you should
Do you expect them
An' do you expect you to act like them
Look at them man
Look at the fix they're in

I don't care I don't care what they say
Just let 'em sit there and burn
The young might not be so dumb after all
An' from the young you might even learn

Everybody says you're no good
'Cause Charles you don't do
You don't do like they think you should

Do you expect them to act like you
Do you expect them
To expect you to act like them
Do you expect to see
Do you expect the fool to see what a fix he's in
Do you expect the fool to see what a fix he's in

In your cardboard houses
An' your tin-can cars
You sit there and you wonder
You wonder where you are

Those diamond rings they're obscene
You sit there and you wonder
And you say who's to blame
Take a look at yourself
Take yourself off the shelf
You can't belong to nobody

With your Can't-Cough medicine
And your wonder drug
You got, more sickness
Than you got cures of

WHISPER:
Cancer o' the mind

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

Come on Dales it's too obscure to mainstream so for you that can only mean one thing.

Start over...

Dales is obviously posting Charles Manson lyrics. I don't know any of Charlie's songs but I'd bet it's titled something like 'People say I'm no Good' since that's the first line and is pretty much what Charlie believes.

Didn't The Beach Boys actually record one of Manson's songs?

Oh yes, they did...

Here it is:

Pretty much dreck...

And certainly a long way away from Surfin' USA...

Kinda "The Beach Boys On 'ludes"... :D
