If you order something that would go well with an India Pale Ale (like the Indian curry, duh) try the Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA, a domestic craft brew that's one of my all-time favourites (<-- misspelled this way deliberately, in honor of the circumstances)

I planned to eat on the rooftop terrace, but the Bruins are tied in game 7, so I'm stuck in the bar.

The bar back, hand carved in the UK and shipped over, is GORGEOUS. I don't think pictures would do it justice, but maybe after the game I'll try.

Drinking Hobgoblin now - fantastic, even though it was served cold. I've already had them pour the Bombadier so it can warm.

Going into overtime; I'll need to eat in the bar. Girl's gotta sacrifice for the team. ;)

eta: I waited too late and got stuck with the late night menu, so trying the fish & chips. Will have to come back tomorrow for Guinness meatloaf & Friday for bangers & mash.

I'm going to love a trip to the UK when I finally get there!

Bruins choked.

Fish & chips was brilliant.

Not sure the alcohol content of those beers, but after three I'm toast.

Zzzzzzzz

Definately not an alcoholic. Three beers is/was breakfast.

I come from a long line of alcoholics, oldr, but 'thanks' to my migraine disease, I've never been able to abuse alcohol.

Believe me, I do struggle with substance abuse issues and have since I was a teenager. I can't ever achieve total sobriety because I have to let the tiger out of the cage 3x daily. :|

eta: I shared all that so you'd know how much I understand and am sympathetic re: your journey.

The Bruins didn't choke -- they were out skated and out hustled in seven games decided by one goal (a new NHL record). And they let a rook goalie get into their heads.

Defending the Stanley Cup has to be the toughest battle in major league sports. The season is long and tiring, injuries are common, there is much parity in the NHL, and the playoffs are long long long. Four rounds of seven --- you have to win SIXTEEN playoff games to win the title.

I'm a longtime hockey fan very familiar with the rules of the game and the endurance required to play it.

Admittedly I haven't had the time to watch this entire series, but what I saw of game 7 and how the winning goal was allowed, it sure looked like choking to me - at least by the goalie.

Thanks for the spanking, though. Glad you're back to keep me in line. ;)

Last night I dined at Moon River Brewing Company, Savannah's only microbrew.

I had crab cakes as an appetizer, then ribs with baked beans & Gouda scalloped potatoes as sides - it was a terrific meal! I also had two pints of their Apparition Ale, which is akin to a Sam Adams in flavor.

I walked to the place I dined the first evening for a takeout slice of that praline cheesecake that was SO good.

Training ends at noon but I don't fly out until almost noon tomorrow, so I have one more day to stroll Savannah and pig out on great food.

:D

You were able to walk after that meal?

Congratulations....

I might have required a wheel barrow....

I had to leave half the ribs behind. I was sad that I couldn't bring them home to my pup. :(

eta: The crab cakes in the appetizer were sand dollar sized; I checked ahead of time to make sure I wasn't taking on too much.

I wish more places allowed a variety of samplers instead of full entrees; my mouth wants to try everything, not eat a ton of one thing. Portion sizes in this country are admittedly insane.

My comments were not intended to be a spanking -- only my opinion. I did watch some or most of all of the games in the series except the first one. The winning goal was the classic "second chance" goal -- off of a rebound from an earlier shot. And it was a very good, well-timed shot, that slipped in the narrowest space between the goaling and the side of the net. The Bruins almost never had the chance to take second shots, ever, because everytime they took a shot the Caps had outskated them and were swarming the goal -- no room anywhere for a puck to get it.

As for comment about parity -- seeds 2, 3, and 4 are out in the first round in the East (and the top seed needed 7 games to knock off the #8), and the #1 seed in the West is also out.

Gob, if you enjoy cider, see if you can scrounge around for Woodchuck, from Vermont (I doubt it is imported to Oz, but one never knows). It is head and shoulders over the Magners.

Woodchuck sucks. Horrible aftertaste. Strongbow is ecellent.

The "Green Apple" version totally sucks, but I think the Amber is delicious and I like the 802. I'm dying to try their private reserve "Belgian White" and "Barrel Select."

Meanwhile back in Savannah;

Lunch today at The River House on River Street. Crab bisque & fresh baked warm bread with herb butter followed by seafood gumbo (local shrimp, crab & scallops). Just iced tea to drink for lunch, and took a slice of key lime pie to go. Reading on the riverfront until I depart for a history tour on The River Queen at 4pm.

It's 90 here today, so I'll wait until later afternoon to do some more walking around the historic district. Planning to have a very late dinner on the roof of Churchill's, unless I stumble on someplace else that looks too enticing to pass up in my walking.

My last Savannah meal will be Tubby's famous cornflake encrusted French toast early tomorrow on the riverfront patio; then it's to the airport for the nightmare day of travel.

Savannah has been lovely; I would happily visit again.

I did take photos, but since my upgrade to ios5, I'm finding it difficult to post pics here - not sure why. I'll try later from the laptop.

No kidding! I'm not getting near the scale when I get home; I'm fruit fasting all next week to recover from all the butter, cream, shrimp, beer, etc.

But hey, you only live once - I might never visit Savannah again and I'm still sad I missed one dinner.

It's a place I never would have thought to visit on my own, so I'm really glad NDAA brought us here. It is so rich in history, so green & floral and full of fantastic architecture. Plus I love anyplace that smells of saltwater.

I'm sitting at the riverfront square adjacent to the statue of Savannah's waving girl (commemorates Florence Martus, who for 44 years greeted every single ship coming into Savannah by waving a kerchief by day and a lantern by night, supposedly hoping for the return of her long lost seafaring lover), listening to a mockingbird in full throated song, enjoying the river breeze on my steamy hot skin. Lovely!

eta: I know all cities self promote, but several times & places here I have read that Savannah has been hailed as the prettiest city in North America. In terms of the number of green squares and such, I guess it might be true.

It would be a fantastic place to visit in late winter or early spring, when it is still too cold in the north but not too hot here.
