So true, the first ride I took with "Tala"....she crapped all over the back seat.

She now travels via carrier.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

I adopted a kitten in grad school and determined to train her to enjoy car rides.

The first time I took her for a ride sans crate, she wedged her tiny self so deeply under the passenger seat, I couldn't get her out without unbolting it.

That was the end of that.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

Maya loves riding in the car...she will press her head against the window. I keep her on a harness, but honestly, I'd trust her without it. (Theory: Maya thinks she's a dog.)

Briza didn't like riding unless her "rescuer" (Maya) was with her. Alone, she would alternate yowling at a pitch and volume worthy of ten Siamese with spastic fits, occasionally enough to knock the carrier over. However, she would curl up against Maya and be totally calm the entire ride. (Theory: Briza is nuts.)

Vierna was the toughest. She's a high-energy, high-strung cat. She doesn't seem to have a problem with VEHICLES per se, but went nuts in a carrier until Liz hit upon the idea of acclimating her by putting her food in one. It worked, took about a month. She doesn't like the big one (sized for the 28+lb Maya) we have, preferring a tiny shoebox-sized thing barely big enough for her to stand up in. (Theory: Vierna is also nuts.)

We have a car harness for when we take Apollo for a ride. He's a big dog (100+ lbs) and quick stops could send him flying, but not with the harness.
