Never been to San Diego. Stopped in LA airport and the airport bar was closed on a layover from Hawaii to NY back in 1984. That's the only time I've been in Ca.

Ha, I was in San Diego briefly once, but only because it was blocking our way to Tijuana.
GAH!

I like the San Diego area a lot; spent a great many good times there visiting an old HS friend and her crew. Love Coronado Island and Ocean Beach - dog beach and the Gaslamp quarter. Too expensive and crowded to live there, though.

Nice place to visit. Never want to live there.
Great beaches, warm water, ok surf, great zoo, pretty good museums, decent ballpark (with a crappy team) otherwise it is a cultural backwater. No music scene, no living arts scene. Scripps is good and UCSD is very good but otherwise not an intellectual center I'd ever care about.
I spent a lot of summers body-surfing at San Clemente (just up the coast) and love the ocean there.

No, but we did see pasty-white secret service agents trying to throw a frisbee on the beach in front of his house.

This pleasant digression on San Diego, will follow with a report in 'Alpha of Arabia' on the [deteriorating] situation in Iraq
We did catch the Zoo, hard to believe it just gets better and better. Right now, I have only the one pic I took on the crap-phone;
Snack Time with the lions!

He was just a big, happy, kitty <3 close enough to reach out and pet! ...if only the ranger would have let us.
All the animals seemed active and alert, except for the Pandas, who seemed a little exhausted by all the crowds, poor guys.
Alphie has all the good pics on his trusty, dusty digicam... which he's sharing with his family, and I can only hope he remembers to forward them to me ... but the objective to relax, and enjoy the beauty of the beasts was achieved.
Alpha knows the area intimately, so also on the agenda was Seafood dining; there was the bounty of Joe's Crab Shack, and a local Sushi place, I can't recall the name of but was very authentic, abundant and satisfiying, while being very inexpensive <yum!>
We caught the Del Mar Gun Show, where there was more fish ...and chips! Plus, an array of ordnance, armor and ammo to admire.
Mostly did a lot of looking; they didn't have the scope laser, A. was in the market for; but he did pick up more AR15 mags.
All in preparation for the shoot on Sunday, at South Bay Rod & Gun Club; a pleasant little outdoor range, in the desert hills, that's so close to Mexíco that the Coast Guard and Border Patrol visit and fly over at least hourly.
...then you missed Balboa Park, it's a National Historic Landmark!rubato wrote:Nice place to visit. Never want to live there.
