Re: Home for Random Thoughts
Just headed out to dinner for my fav fish&chips, accompanied by the most recent copy of The Funny Times, which I was super excited to read.
Started reading and realized I've already read it.
This middle aged memory loss thing is the pits.
Now I'm stuck surfing the interwebs over dinner. Blah.

What's with all the Hee Haw programing on Animal Planet lately?
Gator Man, Swamp People, Hillbilly Handfishin', Rattlesnake Republic, Call Of The Wildman....(The "star" of that last one looks and sounds like he stepped straight out of Deliverance)
Those show titles sound like a band line up for The Grand Ole Opry.....
If she were still alive, Minnie Pearl would probably have a show on Animal Planet huntin' crawdads....

Re: Home for Random Thoughts
Um, I like Swamp People ...it's less about Hillbillies, and more about Native American woodsmen.

LJ; they are the green and less brain-damaged equivalents of "Choppers", "Pawn Store", "Pimp My Ride", "Cheaters" and so many other examples of total crap

Re: Home for Random Thoughts
There has definitely been some considerable of "dumbing down" of a lot of programming in recent years on channels like History, History International, Animal Planet, Nat Geo, Discovery etc.
They still present some excellent shows and documentaries, but there's obviously been a concerted effort to broaden their appeal to a more low brow audience....

Perhaps those with below normal IQ's spend more money on the garbage that's advertised.
I dunno, I only miss TV for SF Giants games.
The best of History Channel, National Geographic, Millitary Channel, A&E, etc. can be found on the WWW.

Oddly enough if you reverse that I think it is a cogent comment on the utility of DSL vs. 3G in Isixhosa

Reading the Fifty shades of Grey trilogy. Finally literature comes up with a female character I want to punch more than Bella Swan.
Seriously what is wrong with the women that write this shit?

So it's not inspiring you to play the one key panty piano Daisy? I thought it was women's wank material?Daisy wrote:Reading the Fifty shades of Grey trilogy. Finally literature comes up with a female character I want to punch more than Bella Swan.

It inspired by Twilight;Daisy wrote:Reading the Fifty shades of Grey trilogy. Finally literature comes up with a female character I want to punch more than Bella Swan.

The success of E L James' Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy– an erotic tale of two lovers that originated online as Twilight-based fan fiction before being repurposed as a series of full-length books first on e-readers and now, after a seven-figure deal with mainstream publisher Arrow, as actual paper-and-ink tomes – continues to build. Doubtless panting with excitement, it has thrust, thrust and thrust itself again into the bestseller lists (in the US, it has knocked The Hunger Games off its 16-week-long perch on USA Today) and has – yes, yes, yes! – sold more than 3m copies in various formats.
It is thought that its e-beginnings, which allowed people to read without fear of discovery or embarrassment (Kindles have no covers), has vitally contributed to its success. Nah; I refuse to believe it.
One of the joys/heartbreaks of Netflix; I keep stumbling on lovely series that I've missed in not having TV, then growing attached to the characters/storylines, only to see them cut short by early cancellation.
Akin to the Twilight phenomenon; my tastes in TV drama don't run with the crowd (Grey's Anatomy = barf) so the things I connect with get cancelled far too quickly.
Just watched the whole run of 'Life' over the past few days, and was really bummed it only ran 32 episodes.

No it's dull and uninspiring twaddle.Gob wrote:So it's not inspiring you to play the one key panty piano Daisy? I thought it was women's wank material?Daisy wrote:Reading the Fifty shades of Grey trilogy. Finally literature comes up with a female character I want to punch more than Bella Swan.

The lead female is so weak and needy and utterly in awe of the asshat lead male it makes me want to puke.
Good erotica, even when it has BDSM overtones is better if the characters are well written and believable.
Sadly Fifty Shades is NOT well written or believable.

I just had a random thought about erotica.

I'll definitely agree with Daisy on that one!
I'm not what my name implies.
I never could understood what the appeal was to this mind numbing garbage. Romance is not sexy (well, the mushy fairy tale stuff isn't.) I do have a thing for Viggo Mortensen! Woof! Even in fairy tales, he's just hot.
I liked movies, "Surveillance" (2007) w/ Bill Pullman or "Sleeping Beauty" (2001) are really different take on the romance/fairy tale theme.
-We had a small shaker in the Bay Area, Ca. It's been a while since we've had a decent quake. Californians are pretty much pansy-ass when it comes to extreme climate and natural disasters. On the other hand, the weather is great!
