Obama, disrespect?
Obama, disrespect?
What about this, does it reveal anything about the Obamas?

The internet was buzzing this week with video of First Lady Michelle Obama apparently showing extreme disrespect to the American flag at a ceremony in honor of the victims of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks. As police and firefighters fold the flag to the sound of marching bagpipers, a skeptical looking Mrs. Obama leans to her husband and appears to say, “all this just for a flag.” She then purses her lips and shakes her head slightly as Mr. Obama nods.
Just for a flag? If that is what she said it is regrettable. Even with all her years being around those who hold high public office Mrs. Obama does not seem to understand the purpose and importance of ceremonies. They reaffirm the bonds of loyalty and fellowship that cement our national unity. Yes, at one level a flag is just a colorful piece of cloth. But it symbolizes much more. It is the emblem of our land and all its ideals. It has been present at every major event of any importance to the country, battles, celebrations, meetings, and the lunar landings. It is a symbol of unity that transcends party, faction and time. It is something uniquely and explicitly American. Men and women have fought and died for it. Our enemies hate us for it and burn it in the streets. All that should mean something.
Perhaps Mrs. Obama thinks that all the pomp and circumstance she experiences in her daily life has something to do with her, rather than the unofficial office she holds. If so she should disabuse herself of that notion quickly. The official gestures of respect shown to her are the same shown to any First Lady, and if she wasn’t married to the president she would be just another citizen. Ruffles and flourishes are not hers by right, but by coincidence of marriage. Yet this is the same woman who said she had never in her adult life been really proud of America before her husband ran for president, so it is no wonder she might dismiss a flag ceremony as just so much nonsense.
All this just for a flag? Has anyone said, “All this just for Michelle Obama?”

Soon, I’ll post my farewell message. The end is starting to get close. There are many misconceptions about me, and before I go, to live with my ancestors on the steppes, I want to set the record straight.

Here is the video:
Yet another piece of claptrap that the village idiot swallowed wholesale.
Because, of course, the fact that she is black means she doesn't respect the flag, isn't that right, village idiot?

You've really outdone yourself this time, liberty...or perhaps I should say the racist right-wing Obama-haters have outdone themselves, since you obviously didn't come up with this on your own. I am at a loss for any explanation--other than prejudice--for how anyone could interpret those lip movements to mean “all this just for a flag.” (Consider, for a second, the fact that the only consonants in that phrase that involve any noticeable lip movement are the two "F" sounds, and the movement required for that sound is also common to other phonemes, especially "V." Try it yourself if you don't believe me.)
I've usually tried to give you the benefit of the doubt and attribute a lot of the garbage you post to ignorance rather than racism, but you keep forcing my opinion of your intelligence lower and lower.

I didn’t say that and I didn’t even think it. Perhaps it is what you think.

Econoline, I don’t care what Scooter thinks, but I do care about what you think and I am disappointed if that is what you think of me. As for the posting, it works like this: I see something that I think might make an interesting topic, I post it and that is all there is to it.

People disposed to believe horseshit will believe horseshit no matter how improbable it is.
30% of the United States thought Bush II was doing a 'good job' at the end of his disaster. Guess which 30% this was?
2/3 of the Republican base.

Having reviewed the video, it is clear to me that Mrs. Obama said, "That fourth piper's gotten fat." (I might've thought she said "playing flat," but really, like anyone could tell?
GAH!

Here's what Snopes has to say about it...

Re: Oboma, disrespect?
That "Bad Lip Reading" of Joe Biden at the end of the Snopes article was hilarious, and certainly makes their point that lip reading is far from an exact science. From the link in Sue's post, I found a lot of BLR videos, the best of which is (IMHO) this one of Ron Paul:
And of course they've got plenty of other politicians there too. Here's a short "Best of Romney":
liberty, I hope you went to that Snopes link and noticed the several other valid lip-reading interpretations of that Michelle Obama clip. And I hope you watched the "Bad Lip Reading" videos for more proof of how it's possible to interpret lip movements to mean something quite different from what the person is actually saying.

"A lot of people say I kinda wish you were less kookoo...."
Are you sure the Ron Paul compilation isn't the original audio?

I will have to take your word for it because I can only get dial up. Unless I am willing to spend half a day waiting I can’t view videos

My evidence? The fourth piper had put on weight since his last performance.
Bah!

Re: Oboma, disrespect?
(A) Having had many conversations with lip-reading deaf persons (in my family), I believe that it is more accurate than most people would suppose. However, context is everything. Lip-reading a single, out-of-context statement is nothing but a crap shoot. A 50-50 chance of getting it right.
(B) To pretend that this wild shot at lip reading is newsworthy is nothing short of bizarre. Obviously, it says much more about the commentator and his prejudices about FLOTUS than it does about her or Our Beloved President.
(C) Does anyone under 50 years old - other than Boy Scouts, active Military and Vets - give a rat's ass about the United States Flag?
In the context of today's culture, it is positively bizarre that we "...pledge allegiance to the FLAG...and [oh, by the way] to the Republic for which it stands..." Isn't this ass-backwards?
