Watch This: AIDS in Black America

PBSData from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published in 2011 shows that although African Americans make up roughly 14 percent of the U.S. population, in 2009 they accounted for a disproportionate 44 percent of new HIV infections. One in 16 black men today will be diagnosed with HIV at some point in their lives. Two-thirds of new HIV cases in women occur among black women. Among adolescents, blacks account for 70 percent of new cases.
Endgame: AIDS in Black America, a special Frontline presentation airing on PBS stations Tuesday, July 10, at 9 p.m., personalizes those devastating statistics. Just one of the stories it includes is that of retired nurse and divorcee Nel Davis. She contracted HIV from her husband, who was diagnosed a year before they were married. From Everydayhealth.com:
One morning months later, as Davis was making the bed, her husband's Bible fell to the floor, an opened envelope slipped from between the pages. Davis drew the paper from its envelope. She stared down at the results of an HIV test her husband had taken in 2003, a year before they were married, stating that he was HIV positive. Having felt ill as early as their honeymoon at Disney World, Davis knew what that meant for her own health.
"During all that time taking care of others, HIV-AIDS just wasn’t really a health concern of mine," said Davis, whose background as a nurse didn't prepare her. It "was basically not something I worried about because of the lifestyle that I lived, which was not risky. I'd heard about it, but personally, I did not educate myself to it because my view on that was, 'Well, that would never happen to me.' "

Soon, I’ll post my farewell message. The end is starting to get close. There are many misconceptions about me, and before I go, to live with my ancestors on the steppes, I want to set the record straight.
Re: Is this racist?
Are you asking whether it is racist to state those statistics, or whether it is racist to presume that those statistics confirm what you already believe about African-Americans?

Re: Is this racist?
As you see it: I am a racist because I don’t want people to get AIDS. I know people in the black community that are ignoring these facts because they are racist as they see it.Scooter wrote:Are you asking whether it is racist to state those statistics, or whether it is racist to presume that those statistics confirm what you already believe about African-Americans?
Scooter do you give damn about anybody other than yourself, just curious?

Re: Is this racist?
I have been doing AIDS work since long before you cared enough to learn anything about it. So kindly go fuck yourself if you are going to accuse me of not caring about people getting AIDS.
And I do not believe for a second that there is any black person who believes this fact:

to be racist. I also have no doubt that, if you were accused of being racist for saying it, it was because you did not limit youself to stating the fact, and chose to draw some uninformed and baseless conclusions about it.African Americans make up roughly 14 percent of the U.S. population, in 2009 they accounted for a disproportionate 44 percent of new HIV infections.

Re: Is this racist?
Fine then. Lay out the entire conversation for me, as verbatim as you can. What did you say to them, what did they say to you, how did this accusation of racism emerge from a mere statement of fact?

Re: Is this racist?
I don't get it lib... If that statistic is confirmed as true and accurate, how could it possibly be perceived as racist?
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?
Re: Is this racist?
It wasn't. It was the interpretation he chose to give it, which anyone who has seen his posts here can guess.

Re: Is this racist?
Facts are not racist they are only facts and people my ignore them at their on peril, “Cast not your pearls before swine”. They, the facts, are only racist because it is something they don’t want to hear and is especially if it is presented by a white person. A free person has a right to be foolish with his own life but not the lives of others. If this effected only individuals or a specific race that would be different “mind your own business” might them apply, but it doesn’t in the end it effects everybody. I still would not want people to die but free people have a right be foolish with their own lives.Sean wrote:I don't get it lib... Re: Is this racist?
So you're not prepared to recount the actual conversation in which this fact was allegedly described as racist. Colour me completely unsurprised.

Re: Is this racist?
liberty;
Most of your posts involve you putting words into other people's mouths; trying to tell us 'what liberals think' and someone thinks a medical statistic is racist &c. This is a dishonest and stupid way to argue; it is used by people who are trying to protect their idiotic beliefs from contact with the real world.

Re: Is this racist?
Look at this another way. If you ask yourself "would a reasonable person think this was racist?". I think not. And if you are not a racist you believe that blacks are as likely to be reasonable as whites are and will therefore not find this to be racist significantly more often than white people do. But if you are a racist, as you often appear, you will ASSUME that they will find it racist and even predicate your argument on that assumption.
See how this works?
Wrapping a grossly racist and unpersuasive argument in a phony concern doesn't really help you.

Re: Is this racist?
I once had a friend er... acquaintance that used to say, "I'm not racist. I hate all minorities equally."
Funny thing about it is that he was (and I bet he still is) a Mexican.

Run over to the African American forum on Topix and present these facts, as I have done in the past…… I am back to work, got to go to Choudrantrubato wrote:Look at this another way. Re: Is this racist?
So still unable to recount the alleged conversation where this alleged labelling of a fact as racist occurred. Figures.
Just as I suspected, the accusation of racism had nothing to do with the fact itself, and everything to do with the package you chose to wrap it in.Run over to the African American forum on Topix and present these facts, as I have done in the past

I'm talking about the fact that you are unwilling/unable to reproduce the conversation where this alleged claim of racism was made, and we all know the reason why.

You are something; the only facts I presented are document in the program everything else is opinion.
You should look at yourself, if you do shoot fish a barrel, as you put it, what does that say about you? What would you think of a person that did literally shoot fish in a barrel?
Now I am tired of this and you talk to yourself.
