A woman, 24, is set to be greatly rewarded for her honesty after she handed police a solid gold bar valued at $18,000 that she found on a central coast beach.
Tuggerah Lakes police issued their final appeal for the owner of the gold to come forward yesterday after the woman found the serialised bar and other items on Forresters Beach in April this year.
The woman handed the gold in to Wyong police station that afternoon but despite four months of extensive inquiries and several public appeals for information the gold remains unclaimed.
Tuggerah Lakes police duty officer Inspector Rod Peet said a search for similar items reported stolen or missing had come up empty while a check of the serial number with the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra had revealed that the gold was real.

Inspector Peet said police were widening their appeal to identify the owner, but if nothing came to fruition they would hand the gold back to the woman who found it.
"This is the last thing we're doing before we give it back," Inspector Peet said.
Anyone who believes they are the legitimate owner of the gold bar should contact Wyong police on 43 566 099 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Police have warned there will be stringent checks to determine the rightful owner.
