Owen Ribson shot up and then died after he tried using a knife to remove the needle from his neck, Hamilton police say.

The 32-year-old father of three was found dead with a knife in his throat at 92 Barnesdale Ave. N., just a few blocks from his home Friday evening.

He had called his wife, Linda, shortly before 7 p.m. and told her to call 911. At first, she didn’t know where he was on the street.When she arrived at the house, he was dead with a knife in his throat.

Through witnesses, medical reports and conversations with the man’s family, police were able to piece together what happened. Detective Sergeant Dave Beech of the homicide unit confirmed Monday that Ribson’s death was accidental and “not a homicide.”
