Oops again. With my deletion, now loCA's last post doesn't make any sense.

So: what's funny, Miles, is (1) someone apparently attributing the quote "And I think to myself...what a wonderful world" to Neil Armstrong, and/or (b) someone apparently mistaking Lance Armstrong for Neil Armstrong.

And it was Lord Jim not Gob who agreed with (1).

That maybe amusing to some Econoline, but possibly not an a thread mourning the passing of a hero.
Bah!

Okay, I think I get it now....(I didn't recognize Lance)

Somebody thought it would be funny to do a "Triple Armstrong"....

So they made a poster with a picture of Lance, and a quote from Louie, with an attribution to Neil....

Since I didn't recognize Lance, I just thought it was some moron who, while trying to do a tribute to Neil, had ignorantly attributed a quote from Louie to him.....

However after reading Econo's post, I'm now thinking it could be someone who was such a moron, that they not only mistook the quote as being one of Neil's but the picture as well....

Though I think when weighing whether or not it was:

A. a weak attempt at humor

or

B. Somebody so chuckleheaded that they could actually get both the picture and the quote wrong by mistake....

I strongly lean towards A....

I want to make clear what I thought was funny:

I didn't think that the idea of deliberately putting a quote of Louie Armstrong's in a poster that was supposed to be a tribute to Neil Armstrong is particularly funny...

It was the idea that someone could be so ignorant as to have done it inadvertently , and then broadcast their ignorance all over the internet, that struck me as amusing....

Doing a triple has to be deliberate; I started the thread because I honor the man and his achievements

...it's myself, I don't take so seriously, that I don't see the humor in a tri-mash-up. ;)

Doing a triple has to be deliberate
That's my thinking...

So I now hereby withdraw my " "

Or I could just pull an Econo, and delete the whole post....

"What a Wonderful World" was written by Bob Thiele and George David Weiss, not Louis Armstrong; that's why I didn't get the "triple Armstrong" aspect until it was explained....

I'm sure if David Ben-Ariel were still around he'd manage to figure a way to somehow bring Herbert W. Armstrong in too... :beat

It would of course been much more clever had they used this picture:

The Hen wrote:Yes, the moon was blue.

Funny how Armstrong and Moon passed in a blue moon.

Fitting really

Yup, the Armstrong family is holding a private ceremony this weekend before the public one later, but they asked that well-wishers look to the moon this weekend and send thoughts and prayers to 'The Man on the Moon'.
