A bit excessive.
Lifeguards sacked over 'Gangnam Style' spoof
10:30 AEST Sat Sep 8 2012
Martin Zavan, ninemsn
A manager and thirteen lifeguards at the El Monte City Pool, east of Los Angeles, lost their jobs for using city property for private use, KTLA reports.
The workers argued they were just having some fun and shot the video when they were not rostered on.
Do you think the workers should have been fired? Have your say below
Former lifeguard Juliet said the group just wanted to have some fun memories before going back to college at the end of summer.
"We didn't think it would offend anyone," she said.
"They fired us for wearing our uniforms and using the public facility for private use. We were just wasting our own time while waiting for our next shift to start."
The dismissed workers plan to contest their sacking at the next city council meeting.
Bah!

That's cute....
They didn't endanger anybody, they didn't damage any property...
Some bureaucrat needs to lighten up.....

The fat kid is the only one with any moves.
Speaking of which, did they switch from "fit looking" to "flotation" as the criterion for selecting lifeguards?
Nice bit of fun. I don't get the firing.

Wow, hot bride!!
Check out the wedding music video parody that we shot and put together for a very special wedding day. Stefani and Jeremy are one of our cousins and reached out to us about a fun video project they wanted to make for their wedding day, and the Gangnam Style song and dance just seemed to be a perfect fit for them. This video was shot in San Francisco and various locations throughout the Bay Area. We hope you like it! Thanks for watching. =)

People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right. The only difference is, they're wrong.

Great wedding clip.
I still love that song, even though I have heard it countless times.
My Unit has recently started choreographing our Gangham Style Office Chair dance for our spin at the entertainment at the Christmas party.

Re: 'Gangnam Style'
South Korea's rapid economic development has meant some startling changes within its conservative social structure, including the rise of so-called host bars, where wealthy women pay the equivalent of thousands of dollars for male company.
In the dim light of an underground room, a dozen perfectly groomed young men kneel in rows, calling out their names.
Muscular, with shiny boy-band hairstyles, they cram side by side into the narrow space, waiting for us to make our choice. Outside in the corridor, more of their colleagues are arriving for another night at work. It is 2am, and we are their first customers.
Hidden beneath the pavements of Seoul's ritziest postcode, Gangnam, the men at Bar 123 are part of a growing industry, which grew out of the long traditions of Japanese geisha and Korea's kisaeng houses but with one crucial difference - the customers here are all women.
Known as "host bars", these all-night drinking rooms offer female customers the chance to select and pay for male companions, sometimes at a cost of thousands of pounds a night.

Damn, this shoulda been around 30 years ago.
Re: 'Gangnam Style'
Chances are by now you'll either have seen, or know someone who has seen, the video for Psy's track Gangnam Style.
That's because since its release in mid-July it's been clicked on more than 220 million times. Right now, it's racking up an average of 10 million new views each day.
It's a colourful, over-the-top, hilarious pastiche of commercial pop videos and sees Psy debut his, now internationally famous, "horse riding dance".
If the accompanying song continues its ascent, it could become the first ever K-Pop (Korean-pop) track to hit number one in UK chart history, says the official charts company.
Earlier this month Psy - whose real name is Park Jae-Sang - announced he was joining forces with Justin Bieber's management team, led by Scooter Braun.
"We've come to an agreement to make history together," Braun said in a video posted online. "To be the first Korean artist to break a big record in the United States."
That connection handed Psy an invite to the MTV Video Music Awards in LA. Appearances on a number of prime time US TV shows soon followed.
He turned up on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show and attempted to teach Britney Spears his Gangnam Style dance moves.
The Wanted talk about losing to 1D at the VMAs and do Psy's Gangnam Style
Simon Cowell, also a guest on the show, sat back and boomed: "It's brilliant. I love it. Amazing."
Tom Cruise, Katy Perry, Robbie Williams, Nelly Furtado and James Corden have also declared their love of Gangnam Style.
Indeed, the video's inspired parody versions from everyone from a group of LA lifeguards to the US navy.
Psy joked about his new international profile during an interview with Radio 1's Scott Mills this week.
"People don't recognise me without my sunglasses yet," he laughed. "I can't take off the sunglasses all day long."
He also explained the dance: "When you dance you've got to think you're riding an invisible horse in your lower body.
"This is the point of the Gangnam Style - dress classy and dance cheesy."
So, what next? The track's currently climbing the US Billboard Hot 100, it was 16 in the UK's official midweek chart update (19 September) and has now been nominated for best video at the MTV Europe music awards.
If the track continues to sell it could make UK chart history.
"If I have number one in UK - I promise I'll be there as soon as I can," he said. "I'll bring Gangnam Style."

English Translation:
Oppa is Gangnam style
Gangnam style
A girl who is warm and humanle during the day
A classy girl who know how to enjoy the freedom of a cup of coffee
A girl whose heart gets hotter when night comes
A girl with that kind of twist
I’m a guy
A guy who is as warm as you during the day
A guy who one-shots his coffee before it even cools down
A guy whose heart bursts when night comes
That kind of guy
Beautiful, loveable
Yes you, hey, yes you, hey
Beautiful, loveable
Yes you, hey, yes you, hey
Now let’s go until the end
Oppa is Gangnam style, Gangnam style
Oppa is Gangnam style, Gangnam style
Oppa is Gangnam style
Eh- Sexy Lady, Oppa is Gangnam style
Eh- Sexy Lady oh oh oh oh
A girl who looks quiet but plays when she plays
A girl who puts her hair down when the right time comes
A girl who covers herself but is more sexy than a girl who bares it all
A sensable girl like that
I’m a guy
A guy who seems calm but plays when he plays
A guy who goes completely crazy when the right time comes
A guy who has bulging ideas rather than muscles
That kind of guy
Beautiful, loveable
Yes you, hey, yes you, hey
Beautiful, loveable
Yes you, hey, yes you, hey
Now let’s go until the end
Oppa is Gangnam style, Gangnam style
Oppa is Gangnam style, Gangnam style
Oppa is Gangnam style
Eh- Sexy Lady, Oppa is Gangnam style
Eh- Sexy Lady oh oh oh oh
On top of the running man is the flying man, baby baby
I’m a man who knows a thing or two
On top of the running man is the flying man, baby baby
I’m a man who knows a thing or two
You know what I’m saying

"Gangnam Style" is a Korean language colloquialism that refers to a luxurious lifestyle associated with the Gangnam district[11] of Seoul,[12] where people are trendy, hip and exude a certain supposed "class". The term was listed in Time's weekly vocabulary list as a manner associated with lavish lifestyles in Seoul’s Gangnam district.[13] In a CNN interview, PSY has compared Gangnam to Beverly Hills, California.[14]
"Gangnam's like a territory in Seoul, Korea. I describe it as normal at the daytime and going crazy at the nighttime. I compare ladies to the territories. So normal at the daytime, going crazy at the nighttime. The lyrics said I am the right guy for the lady...who's like that."[15]
—PSY, All Things Considered interview on September 15, 2012
Psy‘s “Gangnam Style” music video is going viral on the internet, even being featured on popular social media sites such as Gawker and Reddit which focuses on some of the best content on the web.
Having watched it a number of times, we know that Oppa is “Gangnam Style“, but what exactly does that mean?
Gangnam is a very affluent part of the city of Seoul, located south of the Han River. In fact, ‘Gangnam’ translates into ‘South of the River’, and it also happens to be where the offices of S.M. Entertaniment and JYP Entertainment are located.
This region of Seoul has been compared to Beverly Hills in California and New York City’s trendy Midtown, as Gangnam boasts plenty of high end shopping, dining, and entertainment to keep both tourists and the locals busy.
Once mostly farmland, Gangnam underwent massive changes during the 1960′s as the area north of the Han River began to develop. People quickly started migrating to Gangnam, where farmland was quickly turned into a bustling city.
There’s some debate as to whether the ‘horse dance’ in “Gangnam Style” is a reference to the city’s past agricultural history, or if it’s a means to show just how wealthy the people of Gangnam are now. With the steep prices on land in Korea, only the very rich can afford to own and take care of horses.
In ‘Gangnam Style’, Psy tries to win his ideal woman, who is “warm and human during the day, a classy girl who understands the freedom of having a cup of coffee. A girl whose heart grows hotter as the night approaches, a girl with that kind of twist… A girl who looks quiet but knows how and when to party, a girl who lets her hair down when she feels it is the right time. A girl who covers up but is more sexy than a girl who bares it all, a sensual girl like that.”
Psy tries to convince her to fall for him, by saying that he, too, is warm during the day, but gets ‘hotter’ (later, “goes completely crazy”) at night, a guy that seems calm, but parties when it’s time to do so. He then tries to explain that he’s a smart and exciting guy who “one-shots his coffee before it even cools down,” and who has “bulging ideas rather than muscles.”
Basically, the ‘Gangnam-Style Oppa’ is trying to convince you that he’s rich, fun to be around, and interesting to talk to. Evidenced by the music video, he has definitely accomplished that.

Re: 'Gangnam Style'
Psy's motto is to "dress classy and dance cheesy'', but the song’s translation has been hailed as a social commentary on South Korean culture.
"Gangnam is one of the richest parts of Korea and it's where all the big entertainment companies are, all the trendy clubs and shops are there.'' Jamaica said. "It's a song about people who are classy in the day time but go wild at night, and Psy says that he is the man for that kind of girl.''
"He also talks luxury coffee, which is the most affordable luxury.
"It's a real thing in Korea for people to spend a lot of money on Starbucks during the day, but at night you're eating $2 rice, so it's a song about trying to keep up appearances.''
