Ratings have been disabled due to massive dumbdowns expected from psychosomatic muhammad followers of islam. o, islam... How loving and peaceful! Let's see how muslims comment on this tragical, if not comical film, and justify the killings of the US ambassador and others for their dead "prophet" centuries ago. BTW, I doubt there would be a single apology for the senseless killings from them.

Scorecard:
Group of religious bigots makes a movie designed to be offensive to Muslims.
Member of group transmits trailer to internet.
Out of a global population of 1.6 Billion, or nearly a quarter of the world's population, a tiny handful react violently. In proportion less than the right-wing militias which spawned Timothy McVeigh and assorted armored car robberies.
Ignorant racist westerners say "look what the Muslims do!". And then use the response to justify their own racist attitudes giving total victory to the racists who made the film.

Re: What the fuss is all about
I have described the series of events here accurately.
A tiny group of Christian and Jewish anti-muslim bigots has set a fire which will be difficult to put out and which will cause great harm even if it burns itself out and does not spread into a larger conflagration. One certain way to make it spread and multiply the casualties is to be manipulated into deepening and spreading anti-muslim bigotry on our side.
These events do not prove that Islam is bad they prove that there are hate-filled murderers on both sides who can manipulate the most ignorant and most stupid into joining them. Anti-muslim Christian bigots lit the match knowing that anti-Western* Muslim bigots were good tinder. And they knew when the flame caught how easy it would be to gull ignorant westerners into blaming Muslims for it.

*They are more anti-Western than anti-Christian although there are elements of both. In fact it is the secular Liberal society they hate the most.

A further thought:
We generally look at a case like this where the exercise of freedom of speech is morally wrong but not legally objectionable and then just give up. We say "well its freedom of speech there's nothing we can do about it". As if the fact that the State is not allowed to prevent it also prevents all other responses.
It does not and the Patron Saints of Liberalism, J.S. and Harriet Mill, said so in "On Liberty".
"... Nor is this all that society may do. The acts of an individual may be hurtful to others, or wanting in due consideration for their welfare, without going the length of violating any of their constituted rights. The offender may then be justly punished by opinion, though not by law. ... "
"... It would be a great misunderstanding of this doctrine to suppose that it is one of selfish indifference, which pretends that human beings have no business with each other's conduct in life, and that they should not concern themselves about the well-doing or well-being of one another, unless their own interest is involved. Instead of any diminution, there is need of a great increase of disinterested exertion to promote the good of others. But disinterested benevolence can find other instruments to persuade people to their good, than whips and scourges, either of the literal or the metaphorical sort. I am the last person to undervalue the self-regarding virtues; they are only second in importance, if even second, to the social. It is equally the business of education to cultivate both. But even education works by conviction and persuasion as well as by compulsion, and it is by the former only that, when the period of education is past, the self-regarding virtues should be inculcated. Human beings owe to each other help to distinguish the better from the worse, and encouragement to choose the former and avoid the latter. They should be for ever stimulating each other to increased exercise of their higher faculties, and increased direction of their feelings and aims towards wise instead of foolish, elevating instead of degrading, objects and contemplations. .... On the contrary, LJ was spot on in your case (except that a spectrum disorder wouldn't be considered "aberrant psychological behavior"). Producing "nothing of interest" is strictly a value judgement assigned by you whereas a psychological workup backed by years of evidencial postings is something else entirely.rubato wrote:You are dishonest, you produce nothing of interest.Lord Jim wrote:You know rube, I have always found you to be an interesting case..

Re: What the fuss is all about
So we have some bozo making a film mocking islam/mohammad/blah blah blah. Some equally intelligent bozos decide to storm a few embassies supposedly in protest of the film and we're supposed to suspend the first ammendment?
What about the supposed "art" that had elephant shit on Jesus or the Virgin Mary picture in piss. And how many cartoons or films are out there that offend Christians and Jews, yet neither group is storming the gates and killing people over it.

Re: What the fuss is all about
Any fuckwad who could review the events of this week and make a case for "moral equivalence" is beneath contempt.
Offensive words vs. physical violence, murder, and wanton destruction of property.
90% of the military strife and civil unrest in the world is directly or indirectly perpetrated by people who profess this "religion of peace," and yet we are told that it should all be ascribed to "...a tiny handful..." that do not represent the religion. Right.
And last time I checked, "Muslim" was not a "race."
Rubato, you are beyond just being an idiot.

Re: What the fuss is all about
Well, I finally forced myself to sit through about five minutes of that "film"....
My first reaction, is that I haven't seen acting like that since Plan 9 From Outer Space.......
It really stinks....
My second reaction is that it is immature, and emotionally insecure, to respond with violence against bad cinema....
I repeat what I said earlier....
Some people need to grow up and get over themselves...
It is obvious from the nutso pandemonium that has broken out in a number of countries over this, that some folks really need a refresher course in Sticks And Stones May Break My Bones, But Words Will Never Hurt Me, 101....

Re: What the fuss is all about
The group who made and distributed the movie are doing exactly the same thing as Osama Bin Laden, they are deliberately provoking a murderous attack. They are using a different means and hoping for a partially different end; both of them want an escalation of violence between the Muslim and Western worlds they just have different opinions of who will ultimately benefit from it.
The goal of both is to deepen the hatred and increase the killing.
I am surprised at how primitive some are psychologically that they do not see that this was deliberate and evil.
In your view, Iago was an innocent? It was only speech. That can't hurt anyone.

Re: What the fuss is all about

FWIW This film is largely the work of one man;
Nakoula Basseley Nakoula
Nakoula currently lives in Cerritos, California[7] in the Los Angeles area.[8] The residence is linked to Abanoub Basseley, his 21 year old son who paid the actors in Innocence of Muslims.[9]
According to Associated Press, "Prior to his bank fraud conviction, Nakoula struggled with a series of financial problems," including a $106,000 lien filed against him in 1997 and a $191,000 tax lien in 2006.[10] Nakoula owned a gas station, against which the California State Board of Equalization put a lien, stating that he owed taxes, interest and penalties dating from 1989 to 1992.[11]
The Daily Beast reported that Nakoula was arrested by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in 1997 after being pulled over in possession of ephedrine, hydroiodic acid, and $45,000 in cash.[11] He was charged with intent to manufacture methamphetamine.[8] He pleaded guilty and was sentenced in 1997 to one year in Los Angeles County Jail and three years probation. He declared bankruptcy in 2000.[12] According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney he violated probation in 2002, and was re-sentenced to another year in county jail.[13]
In 2010, Nakoula pleaded no contest to federal charges of bank fraud in California and was ordered to pay $794,701 in restitution. According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Leigh Williams, Nakoula opened bank accounts using stolen identities and Social Security numbers, including one belonging to a 6-year-old child,[2] and deposited checks from those accounts to withdraw at ATMs.[14] He was also sentenced to 21 months in federal prison. Nakoula had requested an Arabic interpreter be used during his criminal proceedings.[12] Nakoula was released from prison in June 2011.[15] He was ordered not to use computers or the Internet for five years without approval from his probation officer.[3] Nakoula was released from a halfway house a few weeks before he filmed Innocence of Muslims.[16]
Innocence of Muslims
Main article: Innocence of Muslims
Although Nakoula has denied being the film's director "Sam Bacile", the Associated Press reported that the cellphone number Bacile used for an interview matched Nakoula's address.[17][18][19] Among Nakoula's aliases were names which sounded similar to Sam Bacile.[20] A law enforcement official identified Nakoula as the key filmmaker.[13][20] Police were sent to protect Nakoula after he was named a key figure, and a colleague stated Nakoula was scared of retaliation.[21] Some of the movie appears to have been filmed at Nakoula’s home; the front door, the chandeliers, as well as the layout looks to be the same from scenes in the video.[22] According to authorities, Nakoula wrote the script while in prison. He said he produced it with his son, Abanob Basseley, and the money for it (between $50,000 to $60,000) came from his wife's family in Egypt.[23]
Re: What the fuss is all about
Edited to add;Police have fought running battles across Sydney's CBD with violent protesters angered by an anti-Islamic film that has outraged the Muslim world.
NSW Police used batons, capsicum spray and the dog squad to quell the angry crowd, who carried signs such as ''Behead all those who insult the prophet'', ''Obama, we love Osama'' and ''Our dead are in paradise, your dead are in hell''.
At the height of the five-hour protest, riot squad officers chased Islamic extremists out of Hyde Park to Stanley Street, near the Australian Museum, where The Sun-Herald heard police shouting ''hit them'' as dozens of people shouted abuse and threw bottles.
HAVE we Sydney-siders got this straight?
Because on the other side of the Pacific, somewhere in California, some loser has thrown together some kind of amateur internet video insulting your particular god, you think it justifiable to:
•Take over the Sydney CBD.
•Cause willful damage to property.
•Throw rocks at police officers who are doing nothing more than their duty.
•Hold up such ludicrous signs as “Behead all those who insult the prophet.”
We have to ask: Do you have the first clue as to the ramifications of your actions? Do you not understand that the net result of such irresponsible, appalling action is to give ample fuel to every racist in the country to reinforce every bad stereotype they have ever had of you, and that will affect badly the hundreds of thousands of other peaceful and law-abiding Islamic Australians?
In short, WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?!
Get this straight, and quickly: some of you may be from countries where this kind of thing is acceptable. But it is NOT acceptable in this country.
In this country you are free to worship whatever god you damn well please. Others are free to worship their gods.
And I am free to say it is all nonsense over imaginary friends.
But you are not free to create the mayhem you did yesterday, simply because you don't like a freaking video!
Racists have said for years, “If you don't like the way we do things here, go back to where you came from.” The net result of your actions yesterday is that – for those people specifically disgracing themselves in the CBD yesterday, not the vast bulk of Islamic Australians – much of the country now feels the same.
Nice work.

Re: What the fuss is all about
I'm trying to get my mind around the idea that it could actually have cost 50K to produce that dreck....He said he produced it with his son, Abanob Basseley, and the money for it (between $50,000 to $60,000) came from his wife's family in Egypt
At one point, this small time con man was claiming that he had produced it with millions of dollars given to him by Jewish backers, so maybe the theory that this was done by someone who is pro Muslim deliberately trying to stir up anti-Americanism and antisemitism isn't far wrong....

Authorities Interview U.S. Filmmaker .
Associated Press
LOS ANGELES—A Southern California filmmaker linked to an anti-Islamic movie inflaming protests across the Middle East was interviewed by federal probation officers at a Los Angeles sheriff's station but wasn't arrested or detained, authorities said early Saturday.
Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, was interviewed at the station in his hometown of Cerritos, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Don Walker said.
The man behind the anti-Muslim film that sparked deadly protests across the world on Friday remained out of sight at his family's home in Cerritos, California. Courtesy AP.
.
Federal officials have said they were investigating the activities of Mr. Nakoula, who has been convicted of financial crimes. If the probation department determines Nakoula violated terms of his release, a judge could send him back to prison.
Mr. Walker said Mr. Nakoula traveled voluntarily in a squad car with deputies. "He went to the Cerritos station to talk with probation officers. He's not under any arrest," Mr. Walker said.

Go ahead. Smash up your cities and kill your own folk. Fucked if I care. The leader of the Shia Muslim militant group, Hezbollah, has called for fresh protests in Lebanon on Monday over a film deemed offensive to Muslims.
The world needed to know Muslims "would not be silent in the face of this insult", Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah said.
Protests at many US diplomatic missions have been continuing over the film, which was made in the US.
One person was reportedly killed in clashes between protesters and police in Pakistan on Sunday.
In a speech broadcast on Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV station, Sheikh Nasrallah called for demonstrations on several days over the coming week.
The first is scheduled to take place on Monday afternoon in a southern suburb of Beirut which is a Hezbollah stronghold.
He said he had waited for the Pope to complete his three-day official visit to Lebanon before speaking out on the matter.
"Those who should be held accountable, punished, prosecuted and boycotted are those directly responsible for this film and those who stand behind them and those who support and protect them, primarily the United States of America," Sheikh Nasrallah said.
There have been protests over the film in Lebanon in recent days, but most have been reported from the northern city of Tripoli, which has a Sunni Muslim majority.
Just don't do it in civilised countries.
