He ravished my fantailed pigeons and
me lily- white columbines.
And while I was locking up my budgerigar
he jumped my parrot from behind
she was sitting on my should-argh at the time

I was wrong. It wasn't a chicken but a cock.

Argh. I spent all day with a cock on me should-argh, and nobody noticed.

Quick! Tell Andrew.

Why ropey?

I looked it up...

For those unfamiliar with the word it is a slang expression (ropey/ropy) meaning inferior or of poor quality, as a ‘ropy outfit.’ The word can also mean slightly unwell, ‘one degree under,’ as: ‘I’m feeling rather ropy.’(Brewer’s Dictionary of Phrase and Fable)
____________________________________________________________________________________

ROPEY adjective [1940s and still in use] (originally Royal Air Force) second-rate, inadequate, mediocre, rundown, etc. [? RAF use, an obsolete aircraft, overburdened with a variety of ropes] (Cassell’s Dictionary of Slang)
_______________________________________

ROPEY, ROPY (1942): 1. Bad quality. Perhaps from earlier sense, sticky and stringy <It is, of course, very difficult to get waiters on New Year’s Eve, if you hire them outside you may get a few ropey types. (1957)—Daily Mail>. 2. Illness. From earlier sense, of poor quality <I feel a bit ropey . . . I think I’ve picked up some sort of virus (1961)—Sunday Express>. (Oxford Dictionary of Slang)
________________________________________

ROPEY,ROPY 1. Applied to ‘paint drying out with a rope-like appearance’: builders’ and housepainters’ colloquialism late 19th and 20th century. —2. (of a person) inefficient or dilatory or careless of appearance; (of an action, etc.) clumsy or inefficient; (of things, e.g. an aircraft, a meal) inferior: Royal Air Force (RAF) circa 1930 Perhaps from sense one, but more probably ‘from certain obsolete types of aircraft that carried an excess—or what seemed an excess—of ropes. 3—Hence generally disliked; unpopular: Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF): WW2 (from Partridge’s Dictionary of Slang and Unconventional English)
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”

That's the trouble with rowing alone across the Atlantic. It's just row, pee, row, pee and it's all single-handed
