Mad? I strongly disagree with his statements, that doesn't mean I'm "mad" any more than it means I'm "pms.". Sheesh.

Sorry, I was more making fun of him than trying to imply anything about you. You're right, I should have used disagree instead.

Sure jim, one can scientifically determine whether a female body will automatically prevent unwanted pregnancy, especially in the context of rape, but so what? The reason I think this plays well into the pro-life/antiabortion position is because those proponents claim the moral high ground of protecting an innocent life (whether is is a life or not is subject to moral debate as you note) and state that they are protecting the "innocent", and forcing the "non--innocent" party to deal witht the consequences of their actions. This is undercut in the case of rape, because the victim is also innocent and is not somehow justifiably forced to deal with the results of their "bad" choices. Of course, if nature protects those truly innocent victims, then the pro-lifers are always on the "morally superior" side. Silly and ridiculous, certainly, but it plays into their morality claims.

Mary MacGregor: Robert, there is more. I am carrying a child and I do not know who is the father."
Robert Roy MacGregor: Ach, Mary...
Mary MacGregor: I could not kill it, husband.
Robert Roy MacGregor: It's not the child that needs killing.

So Akin has decided to stay in the race. Now let's see if the Republicans keep their word and refuse to give him any money, or if they will find some back alley method of funnelling him cash.

Except for the hardshell misogynist the pregnant woman is just as "innocent" as the lima-bean sized blob of protoplasm inside her.

In a great film short called "the Tonto woman" there is a scene where the protagonist is confessing to a priest and he admits having sex with a number of women. The priest says "were they good women?" Meaning that if they were whores it was ok but you shouldn't fuck around with "good women". The protagonist says "They were all good women, Padre." Putting him on a moral high ground the priest could not reach.

"Winnable seat?"...

It was a dead cert...

We've pissed away several dead certs, but we've picked up a couple of possibles...

In Connecticut and Wisconsin...

But with the Dems defending 23 out of 33 seats, and the GOP only needing a net pick up of four....(especially with an incumbent President saddled with an unemployment rate north of 8%...the net pick up four assumes he wins; otherwise it would only be three...)

There's no excuse....

If the GOP fails to take control of the Senate this year, than Paul Begalla and James Carville, and every other major Democratic operative in the country ought to send a huge check and give a big kiss full on the mouth to The Tea Party....

Who cost us control of Senate in 2010 by nominating certifiable looney tunes in three election races we should have won, (Delaware, Colorado, and most painfully in Nevada...)

(CONGRATULATIONS NEVADA TEA PARTIERS! YOU GAVE US SIX MORE YEARS OF HARRY REID...I HOPE YOU'RE PROUD OF YOURSELVES!!!! :arg )

But I digress...

The situation is looking so bad at the moment that Romeny's tailspin may cost us pick ups in other states, beyond the Tea Party affect...(like Virginia, where Allen will probably run ahead of Obama, but still might lose if the current numbers hold)

We're reaching a situation where not only would Romney lose, but he could prove to be a drag down ticket...(Connecticut, Wisconsin, Massachusetts and Virginia are the most prominent examples)

But there's still a lot of time left on the clock;... and three debates, and two more monthly job numbers...

I'm not the kind of guy who gives up in the third quarter, no matter how bad it looks.... 8-)

Wisconsin should have been another dead cert - a four-term governor running against a lesbian, but Tammy Baldwin is managing to hang on to a small lead there nevertheless. To say nothing of Indiana, which was a sure Republican hold until the Tea Party decided to have their little temper tantrum with Dick Lugar, only to see their ideological pure candidate flounder in the polls.

And that's a seat where the Tea Party candidate was defeated in the primary...

Once Thompson won the nomination, that should have been an automatic....

The fact that recent polls show that it isn't, goes to the "down ballot" issue I've described...
To say nothing of Indiana,
And don't even get me started on Indiana, where one of the Deans of the Senate was replaced by Richard "compromise means agreeing with me" Morlock (I'm sorry, "Murdock"... 8-) )

The Republicans gave up all hope of rationality when they whored completely for Grover Norquist.

Now ya see, that's another positive quality rube brings to this board...

No matter how much I might become angst ridden, or depressed, or frustrated about some of the folks on my side of the political spectrum, who might make fools of themselves...

I can take some comfort from the knowledge that there are folks on the other side of the political divide, who are just as ignorant and simple minded as he is.... :ok

So long as rube is there.....

Discussing today that the Romney tailspin may be Liz Warren's saving grace.

Please, oh please. Lord knows I cannot abide the incumbent (neither of them, actually).

I tell ya what rube...

I think Grover Norquist would look like a latter day Einstein compared to your record on this...:

I've said this before, but you Democrats have no idea how lucky you are that the Fleabaggers flopped and had no grassroots organizing skills for triumphing in thinly attended primaries...

If they had, you'd be running a bunch of Trotskyites rather than moderates in states that you can win....

As much as you'd like to paint them as far lefties they don't have the ideological purity/unity that the Tea partiers have. They would have been all over Americans Elect if it had gfoten off the ground but the best/worst they could muster woud be a party that is maginally to the left of the Democratic Party.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
