Why Some [Here] Might Be Unhappy

New research shows that people with lower IQs are more likely to be unhappy

A study published in the journal of Psychological Medicine revealed that people in the lowest IQ range of 77-99 reported the lowest levels of happiness compared to those in the highest IQ range of 120 to 129.

Researchers from the University College London analyzed the data of 6,870 participants in a 2007 survey that measured IQ and asked participants to rate their happiness on a three-point scale of “very happy,” “fairly happy” and “not too happy.”

The highest proportion of those who said they were “not too happy” was in the lowest IQ range, BBC reported. The highest proportion of those who said they were “very happy,” 43 percent, was in the highest IQ range.

The researchers found that a lower IQ was linked with lower income and poor mental health, both of which contributed to the lower levels of happiness. Because of the results, the study’s researchers are pushing for interventions for young children that could help not only increase IQ but also the other factors that ultimately lead to higher levels of happiness.

“Such interventions are likely to be costly, but the initial costs may be offset by future benefits such as a reduced reliance on state benefits and better mental and physical health,” Angela Hassiotis, one of the study’s researchers, told BBC.
Well, that tears it.

Aside from this being counter intuitive (one would think that people of lower intelligence would be less susceptible to all manner of neurosis....after all, being neurotic is pretty much a bi-product of thinking too much....) I seem to recall, (now I could be wrong; I'm not very bright) another study some years ago that yielded opposite results....

Were the people who conducted this more recent survey happy with the results?

If so, it's possible that they weren't smart enough to conduct the survey properly in the first place.
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

I thought I was happy because I was stupid...

I'm happy because this coming Monday over here is a Public Holiday.

It is Family and Community Day, or as we refer to it locally, Effin' C Day. (F&C Day)
Bah!

And I'm off on it for a change! :)

Unfortunately a week Monday, which is another public holiday, I'm working. :(

(Yes we do have two consecutive Mondays as public holidays, it's a job to squeeze them all into the calender otherwise... )

Over here in the 'up over' country of the USA we have a national holiday called 'Columbus Day' on Monday October 8th, which has had its name changed to 'Indigenous People's Day' by many of the Politically inept people around the land of the fruits & nuts here in Caleefornia.

It must have something to do with sensitive PC people wanting to replace the idea that Columbus discovered America and instead make the point that the Native Americans actually discovered Columbus on that fateful day somewhere around 1492 BC.

However, no matter what your concept of the holiday is, you can't post a letter or go into a bank on Columbus Indigenous Day. Also, you can't go into a welfare office, Social Security office or any other government office on that day to apply for benefits or ask questions.

So, it's a day that your government says that you're supposed to appreciate an important historical American event that is so significant that it is celebrated as a day in which the government is not available to you.

Most people see it only as a day away from work.

The MOTU may have had some significant input into this holiday/event.

We would need some input from Steve ala Chicken or editec to explain what the truth about the holiday really is.

Unfortunately (or not) those two are now nothing but cyber footnotes in the out-of-print book of the CSB. They once thought they ruled the cyberspace waves, but now they are dim and faded memories.

Gee, it's funny how time slips away...

I thought of Steve just this morning, when I read Meade's post about the Denver Airport....

He'd probably have interpreted it as serious investigative journalism.... 8-)

Oops!. I was just 2984 years off with my calculation.

Maybe some of you thought I did that intentionally. To those people - thank you very much.

But that should have been an 'AD' - not that it really matters to anyone.

The date Columbus was discovered really doesn't matter.

It's the government holiday that matters most to all of us!

They were both posting on the US Message Board last year, haven't looked at it in a while, but I'd bet yes.

You've forgotten how to speak "Stevese" so soon?

It seems odd that he's come up over here and all of the sudden he posts over there. I think he's seeking some negative attention.
