At least Sudbury is looking better
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

The land scar is going to happen regardless of who gets the "dirty oil", the USA or China. I would rather the USA get the oil, process it, refine it and use it.
Yeah, just like the dead zone under the Alaska pipeline.Don't worry, we have a large enough supply of dirty oil to contaminate the land under both pipelines.

One of the problems with Keystone XL is that it is to pass over a shallow aquifer that supplies millions of people and waters 27% of the irrigated land in the U.S. That's a lot of people to start growing seven hairy tits on their back if something goes wrong.

It was not 'dismissed out of hand', you moron, it was sent back until they mapped out a route. No responsible person would approve a pipeline with NO FUCKING ROUTE!oldr_n_wsr wrote:So dismiss it out of hand? No way to work it out?In really small words: the people who proposed to build the pipeline did not have the route mapped out.
No intelligent person would approve a pipeline plan when they had not even said where it would go.
How about the length and territory is was going through might have, just might have, needed gov intervention/approval/consulting. Nobody in the gov turned around and said, "Hey, an actual idea that has some merit, lets get together and work out the logistics and see what we can do?"
If past supposedly "crazy" ideas were dismissed out of hand, we would not be anywhere near as advanced as we are.
How stupid are you?

I see Daddy Wifebucks is really on a tear today....unprovoked insults left and right, all over the board...

LOL LJ
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

Didn't say they should approve the pipleing with NO FUCKING ROUTE. I said people should work together to come up with a route. I realize (do you) that putting a pipeline through the middle of the USA today is a little (just a little) more complicated than putting the Alaskan pipeline through the wilderness back in the 1970's. And I am sure that much "bakc and forth" is needed before any kind of route could be completed as you are dealing with public and private lands all the way. Tjhus they probably needed government agreement and guidance.rubato wrote:[It was not 'dismissed out of hand', you moron, it was sent back until they mapped out a route. Well that adds a lot to the discussion. How stupid are you?
Feel superior now?
You may be less stupid than I am, but given how you just dismiss things and then add the degrading comments on kinda like a signature line, to me you have an inferiority complex and need to "stand tall" in face of opposing opinions.
While maybe smarter than me (depending on how "smartness" is measured) compromise and working together is the way things get done.
We need oil. Canada has it and will sell it to us or anyone else. If we build this pipeline, we get to buy from them. If not, the pipeline will head west to sell to China. To me it's a no brainer that the gov, who controls the land the pipeline will go across, needs to work with those involved and come up with a plan. The company (ies) who are proposing could come up with a route, but the gov controls the ultimate route as only they have the power to allow something to be built across public lands and only they have the power to take the private land (eminent domain, not that I agree with it) .

ETA:
It's been my experience in life that truly successful and intelligent people don't find the need to boorishly brag about their supposed accomplishments and intellect 24/7, and that people who are genuinely secure in their beliefs don't find the need to denigrate, insult and belittle everyone who dares to disagree with them..... (that's a technique used by very insecure people; they try to bully people in to not responding to them so they won't have to defend what they're saying...it's really quite transparent)
Rube has an inferiority complex as deep as the Mariana Trench; this had been obvious for years. The good news for him is that this is one of the very few things about which he has a firm grasp of the facts. He has enormous justification for having an inferiority complex. He has it for good and solid reasons.

At the risk of appearing to agree with rubato, even a few minutes research on the Keystone XL pipeline reveals that it is and was a bad idea, bringing it to OBP for a signature was a republican political stunt, and it is rather shameful to bring it up now as an indication of OBP's unconcern about energy. (There are enough other examples to raise, just leave this one alone).
The tar-sands oil is garbage, requiring dramatically more refining than other crude in circulation. It was not and is not intended for domestic customers but will all be shipped overseas where it can be sold profitably. The pipeline will increase pump prices in the Midwest by diverting oil from there to Texas, thus eliminating a local glut. The pipeline will create a few thousand temporary construction jobs, but most of the materials will be purchased from offshore. The routing through the Ogalala aquifer is not a minor issue. Pipeline spills - some of them releasing thousands of gallons of nasty crude - are a fact of life that will not go away any time soon.
It is not just enviromental wackos who opposed this pipeline. Let the Canadians route this muck through their own fucking provinces - it's shorter and cheaper anyway.
