I saw that piece reprinted in one of the gay rags I read online. It surely shows off the benefits of homeschooling - no other students have to deal with having this evolutionary throwback in their class.

The writing is too sophisticated for a 14-year old, and the total piece is obviously a send-up.
The girl is Jasmine Harrison, she lives in New Zealand, and the editor of the NZ newspapaer which first published the letter has made a public statement, saying that because the writer said they were 14, the newspaper contacted and got permission from the girl's parents before printing it.
Additionally, the girl's mother has now publucly responded to the attention this has received.
A controversial letter to the editor written by North Canterbury teenager Jasmin Harrison has attracted international attention.
Jasmin Harrison, 14, wrote to the Northern Outlook in a letter published on Oct 3, stating her views on homosexuality and the damage she claimed it would do to human evolution.
''If you believe in evolution, you can't be in favour of homosexuality,'' she said. ''It could threaten the human position on the evolutionary ladder.''
If humans allow same sex marriage, species such as ducks could surpass humans in evolution, she said.
Her letter was published on Kiwiblog and by New Zealand blogger Christopher Banks, who shared her letter on his gay men's support blog, Bi-polar Bear, commenting: "If anything, this letter is proof that precociousness is not something to be universally encouraged. This letter sets the gold standard for why children should be seen and not heard, and preferably not seen."
The letter attracted hundreds of comments to online sites and yesterday the attention of the well-known American online news site, the Huffington Post.
The Huffington Post, known for its publication of internet phenomenon and popular culture, described her letter as a "bizarre anti-gay rant" which had attracted a fiery response.
In the wake of widespread criticism, Jasmin's mother, Lennie Harrison, told the Northern Outlook she was amused her daughter's homeschooling project had attracted so much attention.
''We started out talking about how letters to the editor used to be very stiff and formal,'' she said.
''Nowadays, you can express all kinds of opinions in them and it's been very interesting to see the reactions in the paper.''
She said her daughter was well spoken, but not outspoken, and was a committed Christian, seeing things from that perspective where possible.
''Jasmin would probably say that this kind of response is in God's hands now and just carry on.''
Many of you thought it was a hoax, and fair enough – the Internet is full of rubbish. But this morning I received the following email from Geoff Mein, editor of the Northern Outlook, in response to some questions I sent him about how the letter came to be published and if it was kosher:

It was submitted by Jasmin, and because of her age we checked with her mother before publishing it.
She had to choose ducks, in particular… That’s great. Ducks are SO gay, and I mean that literally. Both male and female ducks have been spotted engaging in homosexual behavior. They court each other, have sex, engage in pair-bonding activities, and even parent together. Their level of gayness (on a scale of incidental to moderate to primary is ranked as “moderate” and it’s been seen happening in the wild, semi-wild, and in captivity. Up to 19% of all mate pairs are homosexual. Furthermore, some are bi, and some even form “trio-bonds,” while lasting male-female pairings are rare.. Heterosexuality has been practiced for millions of years. It is time we learned from history and not be stuck with copying ancient behavior.

This letter has stirred up a heap of commentary about home schooling.
My view has always been that the 'other' function of school is to teach social interaction and ready the children for 'real life' (the good and bad teachers/bosses, the good friends/bullies they'll encounter, but especially and importantly the diversity of people and their skin colours/ cultures / beliefs/ general opinions ... etc). None of which can possibly be adequately learned if the children are isolated from the 'real world' and simply indoctrinated into a particular set of beliefs. I have found, just from general readings, that the biggest supporters of home schooling seem to be people who are very specific in their religious (or other) views, and apparently 'worried' that their children will be tainted with other views if they go to a school that requires them to interact with other children. That's only my conclusion through general reading though - I haven't looked for any statistics to see if there is a recognised link.
My other view is that ducks can't possibly take over the world.
