Dare I point out that the highest homicide rates and absolute numbers are cities that are Democrat strongholds?

Nah. Too obvious.

Hmph. I'll have you know that approximately NONE of the homicides in Chicago have EVER occurred in a bed & breakfast! In fact

Wait, what?

I think you're right Econoline; staying at a B&B is pretty close to death, so what would the point be?

I was drinking a B&B just last night, and it was reather pleasant. I suppose sufficient exposure could kill you, especially if inhaled. But I'm pretty certain it doesn't account for any part of the homicide statistics.

I've stayed at a couple of B&B's in The Wine Country, and I can report that not once did anyone try to put a cap in me....

Jim--Cap? They use boredom as a weapon (and a potent weapon it is); although the wine may well counteract that poison, which is why the ones in napa are not as notorious. But there's nothing worse than dying in a building full of tea cozies and petrified hard candy in dishes. You may well put the cap in yourself without the wine.

Yes, I can state without fear of contradiction, that a woman being set on fire by three assailants would definitely make the news out here....

As for this story...

It is of course possible that what she is claiming did not actually happen. This could be the case of a deeply troubled young woman who did this to herself to get sympathy and attention, or to cover for a foolhardy suicide attempt that went wrong, (or to cover for somebody else who did it; like a sadistic boyfriend.)

Such things happen. (It would be interesting to know the extent of the burns; the article doesn't say)

But if that's the case, what usually happens in those types of situations is that eventually the person breaks down and tells the truth after a fairly short period, so we'll just have to wait and see.
It does have a hint of "Tawana Brawley" to it doesn't it?

Investigators: Winnsboro woman's burns self-inflicted

WINNSBORO — The unexpected turn of events in the Sharmeka Moffitt case has left many area residents stunned, confused and wanting answers.

The news that one of their own had reportedly been attacked in a nearby park sparked fear and concern among the people living in Winnsboro until it was announced in a Tuesday news conference at the Franklin Parish Courthouse that evidence revealed Moffitt had fabricated the story and set herself on fire.
"I'm sad that she did this to herself, and I'm mad because she had all these people believing it was a racial issue and a hate crime when it really wasn't," said Ta'nikqua Smith, a 17-year-old Winnsboro resident.
Smith, who attends Franklin Parish High School, said Moffitt's story had caused unnecessary tension among students at her school and in the community she has grown up in.
"The only place I have ever known as home didn't feel safe anymore because of what happened," she said. "Now it's going to be like the boy who cried wolf, and if it really does happen one day, no one will believe it."
Shannon Prescott, a 22-year-old Winnsboro resident who attended the news conference, said she was still baffled by the whole incident.
"This whole situation is crazy," she said. "Honestly, I don't know what to think. Why would she do it?"
Prescott said she was also concerned about the way Moffitt's initial story of an attack was turned into a racial issue, adding that she felt that people should have waited until all the facts were gathered before making assumptions.
Wade Walley, a local business owner, said he was sorry to hear what happened, but he wasn't surprised to hear that Moffitt's initial story was fabricated.
He said the story of the attack appeared to "have holes in it," which led him to question its authenticity.
"I thought the call to the police was weird," he said. "It didn't make sense to me."
Walley said he offers his sympathies and condolences to Moffitt and her family, and hehopes Moffitt can get the help she needs.
However, Walley said he was concerned about the negative attention the whole incident has brought to his community. "This event was a black eye for Winnsboro," he said.
Soon, I’ll post my farewell message. The end is starting to get close. There are many misconceptions about me, and before I go, to live with my ancestors on the steppes, I want to set the record straight.

Hey, if you can be "exactly correct" with those kinds of caveats and qualifications, I was even more exactly correct than rube:

It is of course possible that what she is claiming did not actually happen. This could be the case of a deeply troubled young woman who did this to herself to get sympathy and attention, or to cover for a foolhardy suicide attempt that went wrong,

The story was dubious, implausible on its face.

A diagnosis exactly borne out by later developments.

Actually I thought it was quite funny
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

Now just a cotton pickin' minute....

If anybody around here has egotistical bragging rights about this, it's me....

Not only did I correctly speculate as to exactly what she might have done, (as opposed to rube, who just speculated that the story might not be true) but I also correctly predicted what would happen next:

But if that's the case, what usually happens in those types of situations is that eventually the person breaks down and tells the truth after a fairly short period

So bow down to me, you pathetic lesser minds squirming with envy in the face of such perception! :nana
