Breakfasts were pretty wonderful.

Must have upped their game since I was there 15 years ago when the first meal was pretty utilitarian.

Ours were at the Mint Hotel in Westminster maybe that isn't typical. (6 min walk to the Tate Britain) BTW if you give the concierge a decent tip when you arrive there will be a moment of confusion on his part but after that you will get FANTASTIC service. Very nice man.

I've always found London to be a lot like NYC in terms of costs. My guess is that it's probably less if you know where to go for cheaper (but still good) meals and drinks (like I do in NYC), but you need to know a city well to find those places. Movies are roughly the same; the theater is a bit cheaper, but the West End is trying to catch up with Broadway ticket prices; Covent Garden and the met are about the same for opera. I think the big difference in price will be seen if want to eat or drink the same things there as here; American beer is imported beer there and costs more than local (or even a lot of European) beers; I recall going with a few of my colleagues once to a TGI Fridays in Leicester Square (I'm still not sure why) and the prices were probably 50% above the same place here, but the pubs give you better food for a lot less.

Outside of London prices drop, just as they do out side of NYC.

Cars and petrol are a lot more, but there is subsidized mass transit (paid by that tax) and you can get to many places quicker without a car for a lot less than here.

Then again, for me at least, part of the fun of going somewhere is the ability to experience a different way of life. I've been to a lot of places I have enjoyed, even some I could easily relocate to live in, but still haven't found a place I'd rather live.

I've been to Florida, never saw any guns there (outside of gun shops).
I even frequent "redneck" states and rarely see guns, unless we are out shooting/hunting or at the gun shop.
I think he has some kind of agenda.

My guess: in the news, and in the minds of of cautious/worried citizens. (Listen to the BBC: if gun crime is mentioned at all, it's usually something that happened in the U.S. or in some other war zone.)

Not sure why the hostility, wesw. But I didn't edit the post for spelling/typos. Two seconds after publishing it - before anyone had replied - I added the final sentence (which is, I suspect, at the root of your nastiness toward me).

I make an occasional typo when posting from my iPhone, I'm sure of that. It's difficult to type on and the predictive text sometimes inserts text I don't mean to type, and I don't always catch it.

You, on the other hand, consistently misuse grammar, misspell words and plain don't make sense. And in recent months you've become a much bigger asshole than I could ever hope to be even in my worst moments here.
