One of my wrong guesses I didn't even know was a word, but it led me to the right one. In fact the word is so obscure that doing a google search of the definition doesn't even bring up the word in the first several pages of results.

Maybe tomorrow you can tell us what that word was (I say wait until tomorrow so it doesn't act as a possible spoiler for people who haven't yet done today's puzzle yet).

That's why I didn't, since it was one letter off the actual one. And pretty dumb to use since it was so obscure. I was trying letter combinations looking to see what fit the letters I had, and noticed the word didn't turn "red" indicating I had an invalid word so I hit enter. Then knew exactly what the right word was.

The word was SCAIL. It means "a scattering or dispersion". Why I took 2 tries to come up with SNAIL is beyond me.

One of the Dordle words was one I sometimes use as a starter.   I could kick myself....   I was this close — (holding an imaginary thumb and forefinger about a quarter-inch apart) — to scoring a legitimate word in one!
