Re: What He Actually Said
No, what was it? The proclamation that freed slaves in all areas where the government couldn't actually free any slaves?
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
Re: What He Actually Said
Yeah, and then we - the Yanks - kicked the assess of the folks in charge of those areas, thus making the Proclamation effective EVERYWHERE.
Just like we - the Democrats - are going to kick the assess of the Republicans in the next general election, and probably for many to come, thus making Obama's immigration EO effective. Period.
This past election was the last swan song of the bitter old white male. GETOVERITALREADY.

you let your dander get up big sky. you don t really think white men are inherently evil do you?
can t we all just get along? ....hahahahhahahhahhahhahahhahahah
I can t get past the part where I stopped believing anything he says. it really has nothing to do with race or slavery, for me at least.

Of course not! I specifically limited my derision to the subset 'bitter old white male'.wesw wrote:you don t really think white men are inherently evil do you?
Some of my friends here are, I'm pretty sure, white males. Many of my best friends in real life are also white males. Admittedly, many of my closest white male friends are, like me, progressive thinkers - but I have some IRL white male friends who are conservative - just had beers with a local one a few days ago. He teases me about politics and vice versa - he's conservative, but not hateful or bitter. He actually admitted to voting for Obama twice because the alternatives were so disappointing - but he's a ranch-raised religious conservative and generally we argue about most social and political positions, but we are both able to do so while keeping things friendly.

Lowest voter turnout in 72 years, honey pie! You bitter old white men (
) only managed to put bitter old white men into Congress because most of the country stayed home.
And Bernie's gonna propose a bill to make Election Day a holiday. WATCHOUTTHEN!
Even if that doesn't pass, face it, the country's turning browner and browner and brown people are more progressive by miles than the folks leading your party.
eta: You are nothing if not a realist, and I believe that you know in your heart that your party is going to do some really stupid shit in the next two years that will doom them in 2016.

Republican Elise Stefanik has become the youngest woman elected to Congress in history, winning her race against Aaron Woolf in New York's 21st open district 56-32, ABC News projects.
She's the first Republican to win the district, which had been held by Democratic Rep. Bill Owens since 1993.
Stefanik, 30, is seen as a new face and image for the GOP. House Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy both campaigned for her on the trail, offering a preview of the attention she's sure to receive at the Capitol as she projects an aura of energy and vitality for a party hoping to appeal to younger demographics.
The formerly youngest elected Congresswoman was a fellow New Yorker: Democrat Elizabeth Holtzman was 31 when elected to Congress in 1973.

Jim, I'm surprised you didn't mention Mia Love (R-Utah).

I was composing a post about her, Econo :
And let's not forget:

A Mormon mother of three secured her place in American history as the first black female Republican elected to Congress.
"Tonight you have made history!" Utah's Mia Love told supporters after winning the state's 4th House district. "Many of the naysayers out there said that Utah would never elect a black Republican LDS (Latter-day Saint) woman to Congress. Not only did we do it, we were the first to do it!"
Love, 38, who also will be the first Haitian-American to serve in the Capitol, was surrounded by her husband, Jason, and their kids: Alessa, 14; Abigail, 11; and Peyton, 7.
And let's not forget:
Scott first black senator elected in South since Reconstruction
Washington (CNN) -- South Carolina's Tim Scott on Tuesday became the first African-American senator to win election in the South since Reconstruction.
Scott, the Palmetto State Republican, was appointed by Gov. Nikki Haley to the office after former Sen. Jim DeMint resigned in November 2012. In this year's midterms, he outlasted Democratic challenger Joyce Dickerson.
The election was only to fill the last two years of DeMint's term. Scott will have to run again in 2016 in order to earn a full six-year term.
Scott's win also made him the first African-American in U.S. history to be elected to both the House and the Senate.

that fellow in Colorado seems nice too, even tho he is white
Re: What He Actually Said
Yes, I know - but compared to the number of women and people of color elected by Democrats, it's not laughable, it's scornful.
You guys are 40 years behind the times. Why can't you just get with the program? You'll never elect another President until you stop letting those nutbag Tea Partiers and theocrats run the party agenda.

I know, but about about half of what the tea party says is right. just like half of what the Dems say, and half of what the Repubs say is too, also, as well.
we really can find common ground in the constitution and founding ideals, I hope.
at least half of the people who follow jesus are ok too....

Re: What He Actually Said
I think we have a very good chance of winning back the White House in 2016, if we nominate the right kind of candidate.
I think the numbers show that Hillary is going to be a lot more vulnerable than many in the Democratic base believe. (Her popularity numbers have been falling since she left State, and they take a big dive every time she spends any amount of sustained time in the public eye, as she did recently on her book tour.) I can think of at least four likely candidates for the GOP nomination who could beat her if they could get nominated and run a decent campaign.
Since all four are current or former Governors, the impact on them of anything that happens between Obama and the Congress the next two years will be minimal. One in particular that you're going to be hearing a lot more about is Ohio Governor John Kasich. Kasich is a very bright guy, also a former Congressman, and he was just re-elected by 17 points in the must win state of Ohio. Even more interesting about Kasich, he actually got 26% of the African American vote, an almost unheard of percentage for a Republican in a statewide race. (By contrast, Congressional Republican candidates got just 11% in the midterms)
Of course if we nominate Ted Cruz or even worse, Rand Paul, we can forget it. (Yes, "worse than Ted Cruz" is a very high bar, but with his Bernie Sanders-like views on Defense and Security, Paul manages to pull it off.)

Romney/Rubio in 2016. Good luck with that. Not to mention the early numbers on electoral votes have the Dems far ahead: 257-149.

And you're not going to hold the Senate either - not defending 24 seats of which 18 or so will be competitive. Dems have to defend 1 seat.
Sorry dude, you've got two years. Let's see what your party can do with that time.
