How good is your Welsh?

Post by Gob »

"You got 9 out of 12 right!." Bollocks, that's shite!!! :( In my defence I haven't lived in Wales since 1982

I got 5 out of 12 by pretty much random guessing. (I mostly just went for whichever word seemed the least pronounceable.) Some of the wrong answers were pretty funny, like "popty ping" for "microwave"

"You got 7 out of 12 right!"
With most of the questions you could reduce the choices to two or three because some were pretty obvious put-ons...

And one I got right because it was on the last Welsh language test we had...

6/12 for me. I haven't lived in Wales in a while either.

When you answer the questions, a green border appears around the right answer...

I thought the microwave question was one of the easiest...

Whenever you have a relatively newer word (like "microwave") it's likely to be translated into something similar to the language from which the word originates...

As opposed to something like a carrot, which was introduced to the British Isles in the 15th century, when there were far more Welsh speakers in Wales then English speakers...

Well I guess the green border was a bit of an intelligence test as I did not notice it. I agree with newer words, but then I thought the Welsh might be pigheaded enough to call it some sort of descriptive name. In the end I selected the right one there.
