I'm a big fan of Roma tomatoes myself...

Nice, thick, flavorful exteriors...and then you just discard the watery, seed filled interiors...

The problem with most tomatoes is that when you slice them, they're just too damn watery...

That's why I don't generally put them on sandwiches...

Speaking of baseball, my other home team, the Washington Nationals, are doing pretty well too...

At the moment they're a game and a half behind the division leading New York Mets... (" the division Leading New York Mets"... now there's a sentence you don't see every day....or even every century.... :o 8-) )

Let's see how some other teams are doing...

How about the Cleveland Indians, to pick one completely at random....

Oh dear, oh dear... :?

Mired in last place in the AL Central, 14 games out of first...

On the plus side, if they play really hard down the stretch, they might be able to beat out the Chicago White Sox, and finish next to last... :ok

Finishing next to last is just a dream... I bet LJ's accustomed to finishing first.

This is how you know the End Times are here.

And what is truly amazing? Since this weekend, there is now a baseball team that is even worse than the Phillies -- and in the same division! I didn't know it was mathematically possible to lose so many games.

Stuff it -- 2007 wasn't that long ago. (Although at this point, it might as well have been 1 million BC.)

I've seen the White Sox win the World Series once, and I suspect that may be the only time that happens in my lifetime. (My father, a life-long Sox fan, died in 1988 at the age of 69 without ever seeing that happen in his lifetime.) And of course the Cubs' last World Series win (if it happened at all!) was 40 years earlier than the Indians' last World Series win.

Geez, the Mets are still two and a half games ahead of the Nats...

Well, it's not even mid August; they'll fold like a pair of twos.... :ok

I hope not, and with the pitching staff they have (I won't talk about middle relief which, htanks to Harvey, they didn't need last night) they might be a little better than a pair of twos.

My biggest concern is the Mets getting back some people from IR and the manager disrupting what seems like a good combination that's out there now.

I have been fortunate enough to see the Phils win the World Series twice in my lifetime (1980 and 2008), although I have little hope I'll ever see it again -- considering it took 77 years (or 97, depending on what you consider relevant) to get the first one and another 28 to get the second, and also considering that the Phils hold the record for losses of all MLB franchises.

But I have to admit, if the Mets ultimately are the Division Champions, I will be rooting for them in every game in the NLCS and World Series, insh'allah.

Don't tell anyone I said that.
