Sadly but predictably, this makes sense...I thought this was likely to happen as soon as the "hostage taking" was reported...they say that they are executing hostages, and that the hostages are begging the cops to come ....
This operation wasn't about taking hostages and making demands...
It was about killing as many people as possible...

There have been credible threats against Paris this fall, I believe that's part of why the borders were closed so quickly.

I believe that part of the reason that they are closing borders is to prevent the possible escape of bad guys

Maybe to prevent the escape of some who were involved at a higher level in the planning, (though I suspect they were well clear of the country before this attack was launched) or the escape of some who may have been involved in support or weapons supply...or maybe some that got cold feet...
But it's becoming increasingly clear that those who participated operationally went in with the mission of killing as many people as possible before they themselves were killed...
With so many involved, some may try to slip away, but this was designed as a suicide mission for the participants...

Whoops, yes AFP and CNN reporting around 100 killed. We don't know how many were there in the first place. I've heard from 200-1000.
Le Monde is saying there were 7 coordinated attacks. At least one of the three explosions at Stade de France was a suicide attack - they have found body parts.

One thing that I think that can be safely said at this point, (just simply looking at the scope and execution of it) is that this was not the work of some handful of amateur Jihadist wannabes who "self radicalized" over the internet...
