Missed it.BoSoxGal wrote:President Obama leads a town hall discussion on community policing tonight, 8p EST, on ABC.
Wow, serious disrespect for the President. Whatever, it was a very thoughtful discussion and it's clear from the police who spoke there and others who have been vocal in recent days that many police respect the President's efforts - but of course, what do THEY know?oldr_n_wsr wrote:Missed it.BoSoxGal wrote:President Obama leads a town hall discussion on community policing tonight, 8p EST, on ABC.
Not even checking to see if it's still on.
Somehow I don't see where Obama knows much about policing. '
The Dallas police chief Brown should lead any discussion on community policing.
Hands can be a weapon , it depends on the size differential; if the attacker is six foot six and weighs two hundred and fifty pounds and is in good physical shape and the cop weighs 180 pounds the attacker is armed. His body is a weapon.Burning Petard wrote:
Such as the guy killed by the Dallas cop, determined to be a proper action by the cop--it was a bad guy because the dead man was attempting to choke the cop. As per protocol at Dallas, this was reported as a shooting of an armed person. The statistical form did not indicate the form of the weapon, or arm, used by the assailant. The dead guy was 'armed' with his hands. He had no special experience or training in 'unarmed combat' no training in any martial arts.
snailgate.
He's earned it.Wow, serious disrespect for the President.
In fairness, when a President convenes a round table type confab like this on an issue of national importance, his personal knowledge or expertise in the area under discussion (which in this case is obviously severely limited) is really not that important a factor...Somehow I don't see where Obama knows much about policing.

Not only that, you can be damn sure that he knows a hell of a lot more than most people (and certainly more than oldr) given all of the incidents that have happened in the last several years (especially including knowing the people with expertise to bring to a round-table discussion), and the fact that the Department of Justice has investigated the issue as well. The Attorney General reports to the President, of course.Lord Jim wrote:In fairness, when a President convenes a round table type confab like this on an issue of national importance, his personal knowledge or expertise in the area under discussion (which in this case is obviously severely limited) is really not that important a factor...Somehow I don't see where Obama knows much about policing.
What matters is his status as President enabling him to be able to draw a media spotlight and also people who do have expertise on the topic to participate...
I making any judgements about this particular event; I didn't see it, and don't know who the other participants were.

I'm sorry, but there's a better chance that I'm going to be selected to command the first manned Mars mission, then that the 2nd Amendment will be repealed...That's something we absolutely CAN do!
