Greta Thunberg Ditches Climate Crusade After Falling For Bad Ass In Souped-Up Honda



OUTSPOKEN Scandinavian upstart Greta Thunberg has finally realised that there’s more to life than relentlessly campaigning against climate change after striking up a relationship with a 17-year-old boy racer who drives around town in a heavily-modded, petrol-chugging 1998 Honda Civic.

Precocious Swede Thunberg proved herself to be a massive pain in the hole for world leaders recently, making passionate speeches about what she saw as the ongoing destruction of the planet for profit, and instigating a worldwide movement against capitalism and man-made climate change.

Unable to sway the tide of Thunberg’s international recognition for her environmentalism, capitalists and world leaders went on to hope that Thunberg would eventually succumb to her hormones and turn her attention to boys and pretty dresses.

“Once she met local bad-boy Erïk Vüsterberdën and his shit-hot hatchback, all her talk about carbon footprints went straight out the window” said a member of the G20’s Climate Change Denial Committee. “Last week she took a boat from Sweden to Brazil because flying was against her fossil fuel beliefs. This week, she’s in the passenger seat of the Honda doing donuts in a cloud of smoke outside an Ikea, before driving in a low gear to another Ikea just for the hell of it.

Thunberg was unavailable for comment as she also discovered that texting is fun and Big Macs are actually quite tasty.

The Actual Cost
Nothing showed up on the survey and it appeared I had picked up the soon to be named La Vagabonde for roughly AUD $100,000 … a bit of a steal.

Throw in flights and the yacht survey and it was another $5,000.

Improvements
Some of the improvements that I have made to La Vagabonde to make life first bearable then comfortable have centred around getting more power onboard.

How We Make Money Now
So now… onto what is really interesting for Elayna and I at the moment. It is Thursday the 9th of July and we currently have $1670 on our Patreon account.

Nearly 200 people have decided that they like our YouTube movies, way of life or whatever; enough that they will donate anywhere from a few dollars per month to support what we post on youtube and subsequently to Patreon.

This is really exciting for us. Mum is constantly checking in and writing us emails with Patreon updates “130 Patrons now Riley. 150 Patrons now guys. Milestone. Well done!” With this income we can foreseeably continue our journey around the world.

This is what we would like and hope can be our actual source of ongoing income.

So Greta T is being used by some yacht owners. I doubt that they are doing this out of the goodness of their hearts.

It's a shame. She seems to be a nice intelligent young woman and she has a strong message about climate change and the need for governments to take action. But I would bet that the carbon footprint of her racing yacht travel to NYC for the climate conference was far greater than that of a conventional coach ticket.

Yes, there are some sailors/cruisers (a community I follow fairly closely) who make their living via YouTube/Patreon/etc., just like there are gamers and social influencers and phone/video sex workers and podcasters and who knows what other alternative careers in the new gig economy.

What the fuck is wrong with that, exactly? How does that equate to they aren’t actually committed environmentalists who sincerely believe in Greta’s cause?

Of course they’re not sorry for any additional media attention that comes their way out of it - for those that are clueless, an eastward Atlantic crossing in fall/winter is no small endeavor, and involves definite risks to life and limb. They’re risking more to give her this ride than the corporate sponsored sailing yacht that brought her to the USA to begin with.

I don't know Gob, I think hr biggest message is that climate change is something we should take seriously, as it will affect us for generations to come. Sure, she's not a climate scientist, nor does she have any really [profound insights, but she is standing before a world body and saying this is too important to remain silent. And she is demanding it be addressed.

I recall during Vietnam we protested and demanded an end to our involvement; most of us weren't military or international relations experts, but we demanded action because we were the ones most likely to be affected (drafted to fight it); ditto fo the civil rights movement--these people weren't experts in race relations, but the were the ones suffering the most from the government's inaction, and they were demanding action. I see this as much the same thing.

If people dispute that climate change is occurring, then by all means discuss why you believe it; she's saying "If you believe what the vast majority of scientists are saying will be the consequence of doing nothing, then demand action from your governments, and keep demanding it until you get a response. But rather than discuss that message, they just choose to attack her personally.

As for the way some "laud" her, that's their problem, not her's. I agree it's not a positive thing, but I cn't blame her for that.

I don't think she is any more "attacked" than anyone else who chooses to put their head over the parapet. It may be that some are just pissed off, or bored with, some Aspergers teenager, ranting at them, with no solution to offer.
