California should be sued into bankruptcy

Post by liberty »

California should be sued into bankruptcy. This person should never have been in the country, should never have obtained a California driver's license, and should never have received a California commercial driver's license. He should never have been on the road. California is guilty of killing these people and should pay for it. What in the world possessed a man to try making a U-turn on an interstate in a big rig? This goes beyond stupid. This is criminally stupid.

"Another tragic and avoidable incident involving an illegal immigrant unfolded this past week in Florida, costing three Americans their lives.

An illegal immigrant truck driver has been arrested after allegedly attempting to make an unlawful U-turn in a commercial semi-truck with a trailer while on Florida’s Turnpike in Fort Pierce, according to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.

The driver, identified as Harjinder Singh, has been charged with three counts of vehicular homicide.

Singh reportedly obtained his commercial driver’s license while in California, the Department of Homeland Security said.

According to WTVT, Singh tried making an illegal U-turn, causing a minivan to collide with the side of his truck."
I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.

If he were a legal citizen, would the accident be acceptable?

Should each state be liable for all accidents caused by drivers they have licensed?

If everything had remained the same and he had been a legal citizen, as you put it, it would still have been a horrendous crime and tremendously stupid. But at least the state of California would be in the clear; they couldn't be accused of doing anything wrong. They can't predict what a person might do, but they should have known they were licensing someone who had no legal permission to be in this country, since he was here illegally. He evidently was the kind of person who made his own rules. I assume he thought was doing own the Interstate was just fine. Would you at least agree this was an incredibly stupid act?

In the culture he came from, what he did might have been seen as acceptable, but that doesn’t excuse it here. When someone operates a massive commercial vehicle on American roads, they must follow American laws and standards of judgment. The consequences of ignoring that are deadly, and the state’s failure to prevent it is indefensible.

In order to obtain a commercial driver's license in California, everyone is required to pass the same tests, which includes a road test and knowledge of traffic laws. The man passed the tests. How is California liable?

Are you saying that even though he passed the driver's tests and was licensed, being an "illegal immigrant" automatically made him a less skilled driver than a US citizen?

Criminal? The state is liable for criminal activities in another state? Stupidity is now a crime?

Mr. Liberty, you need to get some education about sovereign immunity. For obvious reasons, I do not suggest you read about it.

sure that's exactly what he was saying because every illegal immigrant is
the kind of person who made his own rules
. You know, those unreliable foreigners that come from a
culture... [where] what he did might have been seen as acceptable, but that doesn’t excuse it here
. Yep, all those undocumented scofflaws coming here to wreak havoc on our roads, Why, if if we kept them all out we'd never have an accident on our roads again.

This illegal Immigrant truck driver is the same individual who collapsed a wooden bridge in Arkansas just a few years ago. Some suspect he does not read or understand English very well. When a bridge has a sign indicating it can only support 5 tons, you shouldn't cross it with a semi-truck. At the time of the wooden bridge collapse, some people wanted to blame the accident on GPS. But perhaps they should have taken a closer look at the driver. If he can't read Highway safety signs, what does that say about California's government?

Oh yes, I think I've heard of something called the Eleventh Amendment, but I thought blue states didn't believe in sovereign immunity." No one was above the law, not even the state"

21% of American CITIZENS are functionally illiterate.

The VAST majority of auto crashes on US roads and highways involve stupid driving by stupid US citizens.

and if he wrecked a bridge with no consequences, what does that say about Arkansas?

In any event, I would imagine he could read well enough to read the number 5 and understand "tons"; he did pass a written exam to get his trucker license.

The guy may have been the worst driver in the US, but it was not because he was here illegally or because he came from another country. More likely because he was a shitty driver, and there are tons of US citizens who fit this description. But rant on about THEM.

This is why California should be sued. The state is criminally negligent: in California, you do not need to be able to read, write, or understand English to obtain a driver's license and operate an extremely deadly weapon on public highways.

Massachusetts also allows drivers to take the driving test in 25 different languages. Until five minutes ago, the USA didn't have an official language.

It isn't necessary to know the local language to drive safely on the local roads - I know this because I once went on a road trip in my own vehicle to Quebec City from my home in Maine, and even though I couldn't read the majority of informational signage in French up there, I was able to safely navigate the roadways because Quebec province uses internationally recognized and understood signage based in shapes and symbols which didn't require me to speak or read French to understand them - the USA also uses such signs on its roadways so the immigrants who don't speak or read English, and the 21 percent of American citizens who are FUNCTIONALLY ILLITERATE, can nevertheless navigate the roadways.

This guy you keep ranting about was apparently a terrible driver. There are a great many US citizens who are English speakers and readers who are also terrible drivers and kill people on the roads every day.

This recent obsession of yours makes you look like an even bigger idiot, which I didn't think was even possible.

In this country, being able to read English, at least at a basic level, might be helpful for a CDL driver behind the steering wheel of an 18-wheeler. It might even keep you from collapsing a bridge in Arkansas.

Remember a few years ago when people wanted to sue gun manufacturers for making guns that killed people? Suing the state of California for putting a dangerous driver on the highway uses the same logic, arguably even more so. People have a constitutional right to own firearms, but no one has a right to a driver’s license.

Congressman Taylor of Ohio has introduced a bill requiring all commercial driver's license holders operating on American highways to pass an English proficiency test.

I know that You guys want to believe culture is carbon-copied all around the world, but that’s just not so. Driving cultures differ in different parts of the world.

When people come from other countries, they don’t just leave their culture behind; they bring it with them. I don’t mind them coming, but I do think it should happen slowly enough that we can assimilate them into our culture. And let’s be honest: ours could use some improving too.

reports say Harjinder Singh got out of his truck after the accident seemingly unconcerned about the people he had just killed; I find that interesting.

I’ve driven in Japan, specifically Okinawa, and I can tell you: Okinawans, on an individual basis and on the street, are very mild-mannered people. But once they get in their cars and hit the road, they become aggressive. You’d better get out of their way.

India is rated by the World Health Organization as one of the most dangerous countries in the world for highway safety. Here’s a BBC article you can check.

"Gadkari told the road safety meeting that many road accidents happen because people lack respect and fear for the law."

I also find it interesting that you say Mr. Singh killed them. Delaware has a little item of instruction in the state traffic rules about 'failure to maintain an assured clear distance in front of you." Also Delaware has the peculiar rule that I am not allowed to drive my car into pedestrians just because they are crossing the road in the presence of signs that say "no pedestrian crossing'.

If he had not blocked the highway, the victims would still be alive. I have a strong suspicion that if the individuals involved had been different, you all would have reached a different conclusion.

If a white police officer accidentally kills a Black person, it's always called murder. That’s your reasoning. That’s how you think, or at least you support those who think that way.

What has it been now, almost 15 or 20 years? By now, I would think you’d really understand me. But you still don’t.

I just want fairness and objective thinking.

When he destroyed the bridge in Arkansas, his license to drive big rigs should have been suspended, or revoked. And if he's still working for the same company, they should be sued, because destroying that bridge demonstrated, for some reason, maybe he couldn't read the sign or whatever, that he was incompetent.

Just because Trumplethinskin made a proclamation from his gold-embellished throne room regarding an official language, does that necessarily make it so?   Doesn't the process as outlined in the old "I'm Just a Bill" animation from Schoolhouse Rock have any place in US government any more, or is everything now done on the whims of a mad hat salesman in the Oval Office?
