Certainly there are some who welcome the US presence
And, like many before them in foreign lands, those who cherish freedom will come to regret it. Freedom comes from within, it is never handed to you. And the US has proven that again and again--"colored lights can hypnotize, sparkle someone else's eyes".
On this, I agree with you: you can’t give people freedom, prosperity, or security. They have to achieve those things for themselves. We’ve tried in the past and always failed. We’ve poured billions and billions of dollars into Africa trying to help countries develop and raise their standard of living. For the most part, it has been a total failure. Foreign aid is, for the most part, a waste of money.

I think I agree with Paul Trudeau: the best thing the West could do for Africa and other developing countries is to pull out our NGOs out, what he calls the “merchants of virtue”, and just leave them alone. In time, they would fix their own problems.

And if the people of Iran do not take advantage of this opportunity, then that is their problem. All we should try to do is weaken the regime to the point that it won’t be a threat to us for a while. As I said before, defeating Iran would require a massive buildup, a draft, and total national commitment. Otherwise, we cannot defeat Iran. We can destroy their government and their military, but we cannot defeat the country, simply because there are too many places for a guerrilla army to hide in the mountains.

Think about this: if we can’t defeat Iran, what makes you think we could defeat Russia? Russia could attack us in Alaska and then pull back into Siberia If it didn’t work. What could we do about it,
wait until they attack again?
Soon, I’ll post my farewell message. The end is starting to get close. There are many misconceptions about me, and before I go, to live with my ancestors on the steppes, I want to set the record straight.

Good, lib. You're finally coming into alignment with everyone else. You're right - we can't "defeat" Russia. And you're right again - Russia cannot "defeat" us. Just as we cannot "defeat" Iran, nor they us. The entire "war" against Iran is pointless as regards "winning" and absolutely a detriment to the world, economically to say the least.

Trump has spent countless hours and words over many years attacking the USA's allies across the world. Placing arbitrary tariffs, removing them again, issuing threats, insulting and demeaning this country's friends. This is the man who was elected (at least partially) on his promise of lower petrol prices and "no more wars".

And so here he is - attacking Iran with no goal, no end-plan, and his only allies are a fascist Israeli PM and a Soviet bully whose only redeeming feature is that he isn't Trump. Other than that, they are all one anti-world junta playing in their sandboxes - deadly sandboxes to all of us.

The village idiot is suddenly silent about his accusations that we support the Iranian regime, now that no one fell into the moronic "trap" he tried to set for us.

I agree with Meade--we cannot defeat Russia, nor can they defeat us. And it we were to be attacked by a foreign army entering our territory I have no doubt that we'd have the wherewithal and support of the American people to force them out (well maybe not if Palin were still governor :D).
Russia could attack us in Alaska and then pull back into Siberia If it didn’t work. What could we do about it,
wait until they attack again?
What else would you have us do other than to beef up defense? Going into Russia would just set up a war on two fronts--the western front into Russia from Alaska and likely in Eastern front with out NATO allies, but it would also open us to a lot of terrorist attacks, even if we were to defeat the Russian army. It makes must more sense to foster negotiation and cooperation among nations, but the pumpkinhead in chief refuses to do that, insulting friend and foe alike with his asinine rhetoric. So we bluster into war/police action after war/police action, achieving nothing but death and destruction at the urging of a clueless asshole.

Just in case anyone here feels the need to defend the Islamic government of Iran, you need to remember who you’re talking about. The regime doesn’t compromise with people; they send out plainclothes militia forces to suppress protests, and they have used live ammunition against civilians. Human rights groups have documented hundreds of deaths during crackdowns. They have beaten women for dress‑code violations, and at least one woman, Mahsa Amini, died after being detained by the morality police. Torture and abuse in detention are also documented.

There are claims that their proxies captured and killed an American colonel, but the details are not fully verified. What is documented is that Iran‑backed militants in Lebanon kidnapped and murdered U.S. Marine Colonel William Higgins.

This is the same mindset that used child soldiers during the Iran–Iraq War. The story about “mine sheep,” children forced to clear minefields, is widely repeated but not confirmed by reliable evidence; though given the regime’s history of abuses, I find it believable. They were also linked to the attack in Lebanon that killed over 200 U.S. Marines through their proxy, Hezbollah. I believe they don’t think the way normal governments do; they see humanitarianism as weakness.

During periods of strict enforcement and propaganda, women were required to wear the hijab. Iranian law so‑called “honor killings” can result in reduced penalties, meaning a husband who kills his wife for alleged infidelity may receive a lighter sentence. They also execute people for homosexual relationships.
Soon, I’ll post my farewell message. The end is starting to get close. There are many misconceptions about me, and before I go, to live with my ancestors on the steppes, I want to set the record straight.

You already tried this and were shot down, did you think trying it again would somehow get more traction?

And you wonder why you're called a brain dead moron.

US President Donald Trump lashes out at the UK and other countries, telling them to "go get your own oil" from the Strait of Hormuz. "You'll have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the USA won't be there to help you anymore, just like you weren't there for us," he writes in a Truth Social post
He means that "they" were not there to pick up the damage after his bilateral surprise attack on Iran backed up by Satanyahu and without consulting either his allies or any sane human being. Doesn't the stupid fat f**k know that if he stops the war and gives himself a fake medal the Iranians will open the strait of Hormuz all on their own because they WANT to do so?

So get out of the damn way you retard moron useless lump of dog-shit (no offense to dogs) and please die soon. (In a multi vehicle collision with fatal effects on Hegseth, Vance, that balding Nazi who kneels under your desk daily, and all the other dumb as plank members of your stinking autocratic bastard administration).

I'm surprised at the BBC including those two other paragraphs without quotation marks.

You forgot Johnson. Seriously how far down the succession role call do we have to go before we hit someone reasonably sane?

Sorry CP.

I also neglected to add that in whining that the allies should open the strait by force against the aggressor, it's possible - just possible - Trump has in mind that they should bomb the USA.

Trump, speaking at a meeting with Hegseth: "Supposing we hit Iran with a tremendous — whether it's ultraviolet or just a very powerful light... Supposing you brought the light into Iran, which you can do either through the sky or some other way".

from the Washington Post, Friday, April 3, 2025: A second U.S. warplane was shot down while conducting operations against Iran, officials said
An F-15 fighter jet and an A-10 attack plane were lost to hostile fire. One person is still missing from the F-15 crash. Two Black Hawk helicopters also were hit, injuring the crews, before safely returning to their base, officials said.

A-10?!? That tells me we already have boots on the ground and not just the airmen who were shot down.

Does anyone really believe that Centcom under SecDef Kegsbreath is telling the truth about the number of dead and injured service members?

I think that, if the Iranians capture the US pilot, they will recognize the value of treating him/her exactly according to the Geneva accords. If already dead, the body will be returned.

In case anyone missed this open letter from the president of Iran to the American people:
In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful

To the people of the United States of America, and to all those who, amid a flood of distortions and manufactured narratives, continue to seek the truth and aspire to a better life:

Iran—by this very name, character, and identity—is one of the oldest continuous civilizations in human history. Despite its historical and geographical advantages at various times, Iran has never, in its modern history, chosen the path of aggression, expansion, colonialism, or domination. Even after enduring occupation, invasion, and sustained pressure from global powers—and despite possessing military superiority over many of its neighbors—Iran has never initiated a war. Yet it has resolutely and bravely repelled those who have attacked it.

The Iranian people harbor no enmity toward other nations, including the people of America, Europe, or neighboring countries. Even in the face of repeated foreign interventions and pressures throughout their proud history, Iranians have consistently drawn a clear distinction between governments and the peoples they govern. This is a deeply rooted principle in Iranian culture and collective consciousness—not a temporary political stance.

For this reason, portraying Iran as a threat is neither consistent with historical reality nor with present-day observable facts. Such a perception is the product of political and economic whims of the powerful—the need to manufacture an enemy in order to justify pressure, maintain military dominance, sustain the arms industry, and control strategic markets. In such an environment, if a threat does not exist, it is invented.

Within this same framework, the United States has concentrated the largest number of its forces, bases, and military capabilities around Iran—a country that, at least since the founding of the United States, has never initiated a war. Recent American aggressions launched from these very bases have demonstrated how threatening such a military presence truly is. Naturally, no country confronted with such conditions would forgo strengthening its defensive capabilities. What Iran has done—and continues to do—is a measured response grounded in legitimate self-defense, and by no means an initiation of war or aggression.

Relations between Iran and the United States were not originally hostile, and early interactions between the Iranian and American people were not marred with hostility or coup d’état—an illegal American 1953 tension. The turning point, however, was the intervention aimed at preventing the nationalization of Iran’s own resources. That coup disrupted Iran’s democratic process, reinstated dictatorship, and sowed deep distrust among Iranians toward U.S. policies. This distrust deepened further with America’s support for the Shah’s regime, its backing of Saddam Hussein during the imposed war of 1980s, the imposition of the longest and most comprehensive sanctions in modern history, and ultimately, unprovoked military aggression—twice, in the midst of negotiations—against Iran.

Yet all these pressures have failed to weaken Iran. On the contrary, the country has grown stronger in many areas: literacy rates have tripled; higher education has expanded dramatically; significant advances have been achieved in modern technology; healthcare services have improved; and infrastructure has developed at a pace and scale incomparable to the past. These are measurable, observable realities that stand independent of fabricated narratives.

At the same time, the destructive and inhumane impact of sanctions, war, and aggression on the lives of the resilient Iranian people must not be underestimated. The continuation of military aggression and recent bombings profoundly affect people’s lives, attitudes, and perspectives. This reflects a fundamental human truth: when war inflicts irreparable harm on lives, homes, cities, and futures, people will not remain indifferent toward those responsible.

This raises a fundamental question: Exactly which of the American people’s interests are truly being served by this war? Was there any objective threat from Iran to justify such behavior? Does the massacre of innocent children, the destruction of cancer-treatment pharmaceutical facilities, or boasting about bombing a country “back to the stone ages” serve any purpose other than further damaging the United States’ global standing?

Iran pursued negotiations, reached an agreement, and fulfilled all its commitments. The decision to withdraw from that agreement, escalate toward confrontation, and launch two acts of aggression in the midst of negotiations were destructive choices made by the U.S. government—choices that served the delusions of a foreign aggressor.

Attacking Iran’s vital infrastructure—including energy and industrial facilities—directly targets the Iranian people. Beyond constituting a war crime, such actions carry consequences that extend far beyond Iran’s borders. They generate instability, increase human and economic costs, and perpetuate cycles of tension, planting seeds of resentment that will endure for years. This is not a demonstration of strength; it is a sign of strategic bewilderment and an inability to achieve a sustainable solution.

Is it not also the case that America has entered this aggression as a proxy for Israel, influenced and manipulated by that regime? Is it not true that Israel, by manufacturing an Iranian threat, seeks to divert global attention away from its crimes toward the Palestinians? Is it not evident that Israel now aims to fight Iran to the last American soldier and the last American taxpayer dollar—shifting the burden of its delusions onto Iran, the region, and the United States itself in pursuit of illegitimate interests.

Is "America First" truly among the priorities of the U.S. government today?

I invite you to look beyond the machinery of misinformation—an integral part of this aggression—and instead speak with those who have visited Iran. Observe the many accomplished Iranian immigrants—educated in Iran—who now teach and conduct research at the world's most prestigious universities, or contribute to the most advanced technology firms in the West. Do these realities align with the distortions you are being told about Iran and its people?

Today, the world stands at crossroads. Continuing along the path of confrontation is more costly and futile than ever before. The choice between confrontation and engagement is both real and consequential; its outcome will shape the future for generations to come.

Throughout its millennia of proud history, Iran has outlasted many aggressors. All that remains of them are tarnished names in history, while Iran endures—resilient, dignified, and proud.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.
~ Carl Sagan
